Perfect location ctr of MDI! Close trails. Local owners Ideally situated in the center of Mount Desert Island, Echo Pines Cottage is the perfect "home away from home" for vacation activities. It's only minutes from popular "quiet side" trails, including stunning Acadia and Beech Mountains. The entrance to Acadia's pristine, swimmable Echo Lake is only 3 miles away. You'll enjoy a view of the northern section of Echo Lake from the cottage's front windows. The house sits on 1.5 wooded acres, on a private road. The home is surrounded by tall pines and birch trees. Watch for deer that regularly pass through the yard, and listen for the call of the loons from the lake. Enjoy eating around the wood- topped kitchen island, or sit by the bay windows looking toward the water. The cottage is private, but close to all the activities the island has to offer. "Downtown" Bar Harbor is about 15 minutes away, and quaint Southwest Harbor is less than 10\. The house has been outfitted for your comfort, including premium mattresses and many kitchen conveniences and amenities. You'll love the whimsical, "Maine" character of the place. And we take pride in having a spotless cottage! There are two bedrooms, both with queen-size beds, plus a queen-size pull-out couch with memory foam mattress in the living area and a full size futon couch / bed in the back reading room. The reading room can be closed off for privacy. There are two full bathrooms, both with showers and tubs, one upstairs and one down. The kitchen is fully appointed, ready for family meals and gatherings! You'll find many basic kitchen staples, like standard spices, cooking oil, and storage wraps provided for you. We also stock condiments in the fridge. In the basement there's a washer and dryer for your use. Laundry detergent is provided. There's also a ping pong table, ready for those family tournaments. We, the owners, are local, living on the west side of Bar Harbor, so we're intimately familiar with the area and are ready if you have any issues or questions. We make every effort to go above and beyond for visitors to MDI. We love the island and truly enjoy sharing it with those who come to experience this fabulous national park. Our goal is that you leave loving Acadia National Park and MDI as much as we do. We honestly felt like we won the lottery discovering in early to mid-June that this property had one magical week still open for this summer. Located in a quiet wooded area sitting just above Echo Lake, we loved being just 5-10 minutes from some incredible trails, and also just 20 minutes from Bar Harbor. We even found a little pull-over spot for swimming in Echo Lake less than a 3 minute drive from the house, which we visited multiple times during our stay. This was also one of the best stocked houses we've ever stayed in and the beds were extremely comfortable. The hosts also were thoughtful and responsive in answering some last minute questions that came up around what trails might be ideal for hiking with a 9 and 11 year old. Perhaps one of the things our kids love the most about our stay was the volume of deer we regularly got to see each day around the property - we learned a neighbor leaves out water bowls for the deer so they seem to frequent the neighborhood multiple times a day. It was clean, well-maintained and had everything we needed for our stay. It was clean and comfortable, and we had everything we needed. My only wish is that it could have been longer! When we were delayed in arriving due to a flat tire, the hosts went to the property and turned on the lights for us so we wouldn’t have trouble getting in when it was dark. It was a perfect spot on the quieter side of the island, which we wanted. Still a very easy drive into Bar Harbor. The house was fully stocked and clean. The owners left great notes and tips for enjoying the area. We have been coming up to Bar Harbor for the last 13 years and this was our favorite rental. We will definitely book it again ##### Amy H. Well maintained. Nice location in the woods on the less busy side of MDI. Located centrally to all the places you want to go. Hiking trails, Bar Harbor, Cadillac Mountain, you name it and it's typically 15 - 20 minutes or less to get there. Supplied Welcome packet was very detailed and provided all the information you can possibly think to ask. We look forward to staying again sometime in the future. ##### Don M. The house was an absolute dream- wonderful sleeping arrangements for the whole family, a gorgeous kitchen and outdoor grill for our meals, and a lovely back deck for watching wildlife. The kitchen was well-stocked with whatever you could need and the hosts included really comfortable linens and towels. Truly anything you can think of needing for a holiday, the hosts made sure you had stocked in the house. We felt very taken care of and greatly appreciated the hosts’ suggestions for local activities. It was a beautiful home and we all loved our stay very much! ##### Sharon K. Echo Pines was perfect! There’s no hesitation in giving Ellen and Kurt 5 stars across the board. Communication was quick and helpful from possible govt shutdown, to a long list of favorite restaurants and activities. Echo Pines was the cleanest rental we have ever stayed in. It was equipped with anything you might have needed. While we didn’t cook at the house anything you might have needed was there, very well stocked! Nice washer and dryer, plenty of linens/towels, cozy quilts for cool nights, comfy beds, … the list goes on. The house was tucked away in the woods, making for a quiet, peaceful stay. Location was perfect and away from busy Bar Harbor. We were up and out early each day and made it to all major trail heads within 15-20 min. Some of the best restaurants we ate at were on this side of the island as well. Pleased with our choice to stay at Echo Pines is an understatement. We will definitely stay here again if we get the chance to visit MDI and Acadia again! ##### Lauren S. When we got to the house late at night, the power was out due to a storm that had gone through that evening. Fortunately, there were several conspicuous flashlights inside the front door and power was restored early the next morning. It was clean and well supplied with kitchen utensils and appliances, bedding, bathroom supplies, and several games. The two main bedrooms on the upper floor were above average in size with comfortable beds and large closets. The owners supplied detailed directions for getting in the house and leaving, as well as information about things visitors might need such as groceries stores, places to eat, park maps and suggestions of things to see/do.
