Find hotels in Mayres from CA $65

The best area to stay in Mayres is within the village centre itself, particularly around the church and along the D579 road.

This is the main hub of Mayres, offering easy access to local amenities and points of interest. The village is small and easily walkable, with properties often featuring traditional stone architecture and views of the surrounding natural landscape. Staying here provides a real sense of the local community.

For couples seeking a relaxing retreat, staying within the village centre is ideal. You'll be close to the local auberge for traditional meals and have direct access to walking paths leading into the stunning Ardèche Gorges.

To determine the best time to visit Mayres, you'll want to consider the activities you have in mind, as the region offers distinct experiences throughout the year.

For those planning to enjoy outdoor activities like hiking and exploring the natural parks, the best time to visit is from late spring through early autumn, specifically May to October. During these months, the weather is generally warm and pleasant, ideal for walking the trails, cycling, and enjoying the Ardéche Gorges. You'll find the flora in full bloom in spring and the landscape takes on beautiful colours in the autumn.

If you're interested in water sports or simply prefer warmer temperatures for swimming and sunbathing, the peak summer months of July and August are ideal. The Ardèche River is at its most inviting for canoeing, kayaking, and swimming during this period. However, do be aware that these months are also the busiest, so you might encounter more crowds.

For visitors looking for a quieter experience, perhaps focusing on local markets, gastronomy, and cultural sites without the summer rush, late spring (May-June) and early autumn (September-October) are excellent choices.
