"Hmm. This is a very good property and would be excellent anywhere else in the world but standards in Greece/Crete are very high. It's a little gloomier inside photos suggest with only limited natural light. There is construction work going on literally adjacent to the property currently so expect some noise and essentially the outdoor balcony space is off-limits during the daytime. Some minor maintenance niggles. Seems a bit mean providing a coffee machine but no capsules but hey ho. This is a...

"We really loved our stay, the rooms are big and clean. The owners are very lovely people. Location is perfect. Just a couple of minutes walk and you are in the centre. We could park our car near the hotel on the road. I'm in a wheelchair and the living room, bedroom and balcony are big. There are no bumps. The bathroom is small. I can walk a little bit, so I had no problem with it. But there is no room for the wheelchair in the bathroom.."

Harmony Boutique Resort - Adults only

10/10 Excellent

"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here, the hotel was in a perfect location just across from a lovely sandy beach with clear waters. Very peaceful & the hotel and grounds were well designed & maintained. Lots of shops, restaurants close by but we were happy as we'd chosen half board to eat at the hotel. On arrival Marianna was very welcoming & friendly & explained everything to us, we were taken to our room in a golf buggy which was nice. We had a bottle of wine on arrival in our room which was perfect. The room itself was not what I was expecting it had been refurbished but furniture was old & dated. The twin showers were very spacious but not private. This in my opinion was not 5* We luckily could move to a different room the next day in the afternoon they were full so we were happy to wait. I paid for an upgraded room which was very smart, nicely furnished &much nicer It was worth the extra."

Fata Morgana Studios & Apartments

8/10 Good

"Stayed in the split level rooms. Rather dated and a little overpriced . Stay in the new wing overlooking the pool and ocean for a better experience and value. We asked to change room and it wasn’t an issue. The access to a free washing machine was a great touch. Great service and friendly staff."

Hotel Kalyves Beach

10/10 Excellent

"Fantastic hotel, well positioned unfortunately the food could have been a bit hotter but luckily we only went B&B.... We have just got back to the UK ( 05/10/2026) and we was there when the worst weather they had ever experienced storms, torrential rail and wind for 7days... But hey the locals made it special and would definitely come back...."

Monastery Estate Mountain Retreat

10/10 Excellent

"Perfect stay with my daughter for few days. Staff are so friendly and helpful all the time. Can’t fault the whole experience. The only thing I’d pick on was the smell in the toilet in our room, it’s probably due to the sewage system. The stafff came to attend and fix the smell every time we raise the issue. It’s really been a great escape ."

Neos Omalos

10/10 Excellent

"The hotel is isolated close to the Samaria gorge’s trail departure. It’s perfect if you plan to visit the gorge. The hotel is a little outdated but it offers everything you need for your stay and is very affordable. The plus is the team. All of them are super nice and they make your stay unforgettable. I recommend everyone to get there just to enjoy being treated nicely in a very natural way."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Livaniana?

The best area to stay in Livaniana is within the village itself, or in the immediate surrounding countryside for those seeking a more secluded escape.

Livaniana village is a small, traditional Cretan settlement located in the hills. It's characterised by its stone houses, narrow lanes, and olive groves, offering a genuine taste of rural Greek life. While quiet, it provides a central base for exploring the region's natural beauty.

For couples looking for a peaceful retreat, staying directly in Livaniana village is ideal. You'll find charming guesthouses and villas that offer privacy and stunning views of the surrounding landscape. It's a wonderful spot for relaxing, enjoying local hospitality, and taking leisurely walks through the countryside.

Families might prefer the countryside just outside Livaniana. Here, you can rent larger villas, often with private pools and ample space for children to play.

When is the best time to go to Livaniana?

The best time to visit Livaniana, Crete, for pleasant weather and fewer crowds is during the shoulder seasons of late spring (April to May) and early autumn (September to October).

During late spring, the island bursts into bloom, and the temperatures are comfortably warm, typically ranging from 20-25°C. The sea is warming up nicely for swimming, and the walking trails are at their best before the intense summer heat sets in. This period is ideal for couples looking for a romantic getaway with opportunities for outdoor activities like hiking or exploring the local villages without the bustling crowds of peak summer.

Early autumn offers similar delightful weather, with temperatures often lingering around 25°C, and the sea remaining warm from the summer months. The crowds have thinned out, making it a more peaceful time to enjoy the beaches, dine at local tavernas, and explore historical sites.
