The building is very ethnic, filled with Indian and Middle Eastern sellers and stands, but we did not find them scary like some reviews say. The elevator was slow and crowded, but the longest we waited was \~10 minutes, not up to an hour like others said. The staff at the family-run hostel are friendly, and although the space is small they clean it daily so it was livable. And because I had lived in Hong Kong for more than a decade, I was aware of what kind of facilities might be found in the Chungking Mansions complex, which houses dozens of cheap accommodations. To be fair, the staff at the Unique Hostel was friendly and accommodating, and though the room was old and small, it was functional and met my need to find a cheap room in the Tsim Sha Tsui area where I had an event. Terribly small room and bathroom. Room is okay clean, not as bad as some comments. Fan is noisy. Air-con is slow but is still working, unsure under hot summer. Bathroom has hot water, but must wait 15 min to boil up. TV is not working at all. The place is strategically situated and just few steps at the HK Museum and HK Cultural Center. It is also very near the harbor bay and star ferry. It is near the shopping district Sogo Dept store, i square, harbor city. The accommodation is modest with friendly staff. Do not expect too much though but if you just want a place to sleep and take a rest for a very cheap price, then this is the place. It is more an inn rather than a hotel.
