« After a very tiring walk across the moors. the Tan Hill offered a very welcoming sight. Even better was the ambience inside, with a very welcoming and helpful host. The bedroom was tastefully decorated with a massive bed and lovely shower room. Needing a hearty meal the 3 of us were delighted with melt in the mouth cooked to perfection steak and chicken pies and a giant Yorkshire boeuf bourgignon. We will be back ! »

« The cottage was pristine, we felt like we were the first guests. It is a spacious, comfortable and stylish property and the owner’s attention to detail is second to none. « Bathroom was filthy and covered in white powder (possibly plaster dust). Reported it but staff took no action which was very disappointing, especially considering the high cost of the room. Very understaffed and overall poor value for money. Which if booked somewhere else in hindsight as I've stayed in far better lake district hotels for less money. »

« The Inn is perfectly located for enjoying Kirkby Stephen. The staff - especially Jacqui - is super helpful and kind. Really enjoyed our brief time there. Our friends who stayed down the street were wishing they had booked here. Be prepared to carry luggage upstairs and know the bed isn’t super big by American standards. »

« lovely pub owned by the Lowther Estate. Stayed 3 nights while attending a wedding at Askham hall 6 minutes drive away. Food was well above usual pub food, and sourced from the Estate. Recently refubished. Walls a little thin and you could hear voices from room next door. Also no lift and original worn stone stairs to bedrooms, so may not be suitable for those with mobility issues.
