![Sherkin Island lies in the sheltered waters of Roaringwater Bay, west Cork. It is a relatively small island, no more than 5km by 3km, with a current population of approximately 100. There is easy access by ferry from Baltimore, a trip of about 15 minutes. The island offers a special experience for anyone with an interest in wildlife and the marine. It is one of the best places in Europe to observe the European Otter (Lutra lutra) - there are signs of them everywhere if you know what to look for. It was an extremely peaceful and relaxing stay. It was so quiet as well. The location is perfect for day trips to Cork and Cobh, as well as the Ring of Kerry. Lidl was only a 10 minute drive away »

![Sherkin Island lies in the sheltered waters of Roaringwater Bay, west Cork. It is a relatively small island, no more than 5km by 3km, with a current population of approximately 100. There is easy access by ferry from Baltimore, a trip of about 15 minutes. The island offers a special experience for anyone with an interest in wildlife and the marine. It is one of the best places in Europe to observe the European Otter (Lutra lutra) - there are signs of them everywhere if you know what to look for.
