Top Great Tew Hotel Reviews

The Lygon Arms

The Lygon Arms

10/10 Excellent
"Amazing hotel with great food. Gary the porter was superb and clearly loved his job and was very engaging. Bar area was very relaxing although very cold at times. Great location for exploring the area. Only downside was the location of car park 2 especially when it was raining with gale force winds. Definitely would recommend the hotel and will certainly go back to one of the courtyard classic rooms which were very cosy and really good size."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Great Tew?
The best area to stay in Great Tew is within the village itself or in the immediately surrounding countryside, particularly for those seeking a tranquil and exclusive experience.

Great Tew village is known for its picturesque, honey-coloured stone cottages and well-kept gardens. The main street winds through the village, past the historic church of St Michael and the popular local pub. It's a small, well-manicured village that feels very much like a quintessential English countryside escape.

Couples looking for a romantic getaway will find Great Tew village ideal. Staying here offers a chance to enjoy leisurely walks through the village and surrounding fields, and the local pub provides a lovely setting for an evening meal. The quiet nature of the village ensures a relaxing stay, far from the hustle and bustle.

For those travelling with family and seeking more space and privacy, the luxury estates and larger holiday rentals just outside the village centre are an excellent option. These properties often come with extensive grounds, providing plenty of room for children to play and for everyone to enjoy the rural setting.
When is the best time to go to Great Tew?
The best time to visit Great Tew is during the late spring and summer months, specifically from May to September.

You'll find longer daylight hours, great for enjoying outdoor activities and the picturesque scenery. This period also sees the village's gardens and flora in full bloom, adding to its natural charm.

Couples looking for a romantic getaway will particularly enjoy the summer. The pleasant weather allows for leisurely strolls through the village's pretty lanes, enjoying al fresco dining at local pubs, and exploring nearby attractions like the Soho Farmhouse or Blenheim Palace without the chill of winter. The extended daylight hours provide ample opportunity for scenic drives through the rolling hills.

For those seeking a tranquil escape, late spring (May and early June) offers a wonderful balance. The crowds are typically smaller than in peak summer, yet the weather is still very agreeable.
