Frequently asked questions

When is the best time to go to Down Ampney?
The best time to visit Down Ampney is during the spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) months, when the weather is generally pleasant and the countryside is at its most picturesque.

During spring, the Cotswold countryside around Down Ampney truly comes alive. The fields are green, wildflowers bloom, and the lambing season adds to the pastoral charm. Temperatures are mild, typically ranging from 10°C to 18°C, making it ideal for exploring the numerous walking and cycling trails. This period is great for couples looking for a romantic escape, enjoying scenic drives and cosy evenings in country pubs.

Autumn also offers beautiful scenery, with the trees displaying a stunning array of reds, oranges, and golds. The weather remains comfortable for outdoor activities, with average temperatures between 8°C and 15°C. This season is particularly appealing for solo travellers or those seeking a quiet retreat, as the summer crowds have dispersed. You can enjoy long walks through the changing landscapes and visit nearby historic towns without feeling rushed.

While summer (July and August) can be lovely with warmer temperatures, it's also the busiest time, and prices for accommodation might be higher.
