After doing a painful amount of research, it was difficult to decide between this resort and a few other ones we found, but I am so glad we went with The Islander. The grounds are beautiful, the staff is lovely, and the setup of the resort is all you could hope for! We truly forgot we were still in the U.S. and not on a tropical island. We also lucked out with our room location, being right near the pool, so we didn’t have to get out there early to “reserve” chairs, didn’t have to go far to use the bathroom, etc. It’s a family-friendly resort, but it’s not like it’s impossible for adults without children to relax. I’d recommend The Islander to anyone looking to stay in Islamorada." The pool has zero entry and no super deep ends, it’s right on the water — there’s a basketball court and mini golf course right off the water, you can easily rent bikes as an amenity and bike around the resort or to other local shops… the list goes on. Islamorada is also family friendly island with lots of things to do— don’t skip Theater of the Sea. The Dolphin show wowed all 3 of the kids. We rented a car and drove from the Villas to the main resort but took the free shuttle a couple of times when needed. The Villa side is quieter but provides the space and layout needed for a bigger family. We caught mangrove snapper, jack crevalle, grunts and a barracuda. Even had a shark hooked for a few seconds. Kids loved the kayaks, paddle boards and plethora of sand toys.
