Originally built in the 12th century as the chapel of the residence of the Count of Flanders, the church houses a venerated relic of the Holy Blood allegedly collected by Joseph of Arimathea and brought from the Holy Land by Thierry of Alsace, Count of Flanders. Built between 1134 and 1157, it was promoted to minor basilica in 1923. The 12th-century basilica is located in the Burg square and consists of a lower and upper chapel. The lower chapel dedicated to St. Basil the Great is a dark Romanesque structure that remains virtually unchanged. The venerated relic is in the upper chapel, which was rebuilt in the Gothic style during the 16th century and renovated multiple times during the 19th century in Gothic Revival style. Brilliant breakfast, lots of varieties, eggs, cold meat, cheeses, fruit, fresh juices and champagne too. We booked the apartment which was right next to the hotel and it’s quiet and clean. Lot’s of dining and shopping nearby.

Location was perfect, able to walk to all main sites, hotel just off main market square and canal with boat trips 1 min away. Staff at hotel excellent. Only minus if staying in guest house is there are no lifts and two flights of stairs but rooms are lovely.

October in Bruges

We stayed at The Pand 17 next door to the main hotel. Our room at the top was nicely furnished & we had 2 large windows for views of the street which let in lots of light. We had a fridge o our room & was able to get fresh milk every day so we could make a hot drink. The staff were friendly & helpful & we were able to have drinks in the courtyard & enjoy the ambiance of the main hotel.

Great place, great location, small problem.

Great location just a few meters from the center. Great service on checkin and during stay. Issue was with the shower. Drain was clogged and couldn’t take a proper shower without water overflowing into floor. Otherwise a great place to stay.

Pand 17 was absolutely perfect for our needs. The accommodation was charming, spotlessly clean, and offered excellent value for the price we paid. The staff were exceptionally warm and caring—they took the time to show us to our room and, without prompting, provided a map along with thoughtful recommendations for the best sights and activities in Bruges. The location is fantastic—right in the heart of Bruges, within walking distance of major attractions, great restaurants, a grocery store, and a lovely park just around the corner. Our room was ideal for two people: comfortable, well-maintained, and cozy. The only suggestion we would offer is the addition of a kettle in the room for added convenience. Also, note that the bathrooms do not have fans, so they tend to steam up quickly. We wish we had stayed longer and would not hesitate to return
