Given Belén's unique characteristics as a district primarily built on stilts over the Amazon River, the best areas to stay are generally in the more developed parts of Iquitos, which serves as the gateway to Belén and offers all the conventional accommodation options. For travellers looking for quality and convenience, the area around the Plaza de Armas in Iquitos is ideal. This is the city's main square, surrounded by historic buildings such as the Iron House and the Iquitos Cathedral. The streets radiating from the plaza, like Napo Street and Prospero Street, are where you'll find the best hotels, restaurants, and shops. It's a central and well-maintained part of the city, superb for those who appreciate easy access to amenities and a pleasant environment.Couples often find this area particularly appealing as it offers a pleasant base for exploring. You can enjoy strolls around the plaza, dine at quality restaurants, and easily arrange river tours or excursions into the Amazon. The proximity to the Malecón Tarapacá, a riverside promenade, also provides lovely views and opportunities for relaxed evenings. For those interested in exploring Belén itself, staying near the Plaza de Armas allows for convenient access to the riverfront, where you can arrange boat trips to the Belén market and the stilt house areas. While Belén offers a fascinating cultural experience, conventional accommodation within Belén itself is not common due to its unique, river-dependent infrastructure.

The best time to visit Belén is during the dry season, which typically runs from May to November.During these months, you'll experience lower water levels on the Itaya River, making it easier to explore the stilt houses and floating markets of Belén's main area. The weather is generally sunnier and less humid, which is more comfortable for walking around and taking boat tours. While it's still a tropical climate, the reduced rainfall means fewer disruptions to your plans. For those interested in seeing the Belén market in full swing and navigating the narrow waterways by canoe, this period offers the clearest access and best conditions.
