Our mountain get-away was a delightful reprieve from summer heat. The accommodations were very comfortable and enjoyable. There were many things to see and do in the area for day trips.
We stayed at Connie’s Log Cabin for a family getaway. This property is really comfortable and well stocked. There are plenty of restaurants, shopping and activities nearby. One point to note: there didn’t appear to be any heat ducts/vents in the lower level of this house. There are 2 bedrooms on the lower level and it may cause issues in the colder months. Overall, highly recommend Connie’s Log Cabin!
Staying here requires you to download some extra app outside of vrbo which is super annoying. And the property management company will send you a dozen emails which is weird and unnecessary. The property is lovely, be prepared to bring stuff you wouldn’t think you need. Like trash bags. Don’t arrive after dark, the signs within the subdivision are extra tiny and written in some strange illegible script. The cabin is setup well and has plenty of space and amenities.
Great place to stay! Our only issue was getting in. The directions told us to turn on Lakeside Drive just past The Peddlin' Pig, however, there was a new additional gate with a padlock on the outside of the gate we were supposed to enter. My friends and I are familiar with Banner Elk so we knew how to get in the main Tynecastle entrance and find it but the directions might not to be updated for the next people that rent the house! We had a wonderful time at the house and it was perfect for our group! Thanks so much for a great stay!!
This property is pretty awesome. It truly feels like you're hours away from civilization when you're sitting in the cabin. The house was great, very clean. The porch was awesome with beautiful plants in the back. Fire pit was fun. The fenced in area around the firepit coming off of the back porch was great for those with dogs.
I only have three complaints.
First, the bedrooms downstairs are FREEZING. The temperature in the house varies drastically from upstairs to downstairs. It was probably 70 degrees on the main floor, 73 upstairs, and 50 downstairs. There's even heating blankets on the beds downstairs to help fight the cold.
The floors/ceilings are PAPER THIN. I could hear absolutely everything upstairs. I could even hear the whispers and people blowing their nose. It kept me up all night hearing them walk to the bathroom, shuffle around the floor, etc. So be wary of who you assign to the upstairs bedroom.
Lastly, the neighborhood is all marked as "private property" and navigating there was wildly difficult. We accidentally took a family walk down the hill and was approached by VERY angry rich people who told us we were walking on their property and forcefully made us walk back up the hill. It was weird. They drove their car down and waved their hands all around at us before stopping and telling us why we were in the wrong.
Otherwise, this is a great place. We would still go back despite those problems but I would come prepared this time around. I definitely wouldn't put the grandparents down in the freezing rooms. I definitely wouldn't put the people with the dog in the top floor where you can hear the dog sniffing the floor and shuffling around.
