The best area to stay in Vieux-Chateau is within the historic village centre itself.

The village centre is compact and centred around the main square, Place du Marché, where you'll find the local boulangerie and a few small shops. The impressive Château de Vieux-Chateau, after which the village is named, dominates the skyline and is easily accessible from any point in the centre. The streets are narrow and cobbled, making it a delightful area for a stroll.

Couples often find this area great for a romantic getaway. The village offers a quiet, picturesque setting with charming guesthouses and small, independent restaurants, many of which focus on local Burgundian cuisine. It's an ideal base for exploring the surrounding vineyards and enjoying wine tastings, with many reputable cellars just a short drive away.

For families, staying slightly outside the immediate centre but still within walking distance offers a good balance. These properties often include more space, such as a garden or a larger courtyard, which can be useful for children.

The best time to visit Vieux-Chateau is during the late spring (May to early June) and early autumn (September to early October) when the weather is pleasant and the vineyards are at their most picturesque.

Late spring offers comfortable temperatures, ideal for exploring the countryside and enjoying outdoor activities. The vineyards are lush and green, and many local events and markets begin to open. This period is particularly good for couples who enjoy scenic walks and wine-tasting without the peak summer crowds.

Early autumn is another excellent choice, coinciding with the grape harvest season, known as the vendanges. The weather remains mild, and the changing colours of the vineyards create stunning landscapes.
