We had two rooms. One was a moderate twin (6th floor) and the other was a superior twin plus (20th floor). The moderate twin room was renovated and nice. The superior twin was clean but dated. The hotel is close to and on the south end of the Ikebukuro station. There is a lot to do on all sides of the station. The airport limousine bus stops at the hotel making it really easy for airport transport. The Ike bus also stops at the hotel and makes a loop around Ikebukuro. Only drawback for us was that it’s a bit far from Disneyland (1hr train ride) but we only went to Diensy one day. Nice area to stay in and I’m sure we’d find a lot more to do in the area if we were to stay there again.

I wouldn’t have booked this hotel if it weren’t a VIP Access hotel for Expedia Gold members. The service is fairly terrible - when I arrived a doorman greeted me but never helped me carry my luggage from my car, instead, he just stood beside my car. Upon check in, I inquired about room upgrade availability, was first told I have to pay, and after showing the Expedia perks I was offered a 27sqm non-renovated king room which I booked a renovated queen room. I asked if there were any other room type to choose for upgrade and I didn’t receive any reply. In the end I chose to take my original reservation as I could tell from the face of the Front Desk lady that she wasn’t willing to offer me anything and basically wanted me to keep my original booking as she kept highlighting to me that my room is on the lower floor but newly renovated and it’s not a huge difference in terms of size or bed type whatsoever. Breakfast service was also pretty bad - staff were walking around without clearing finished plates from tables and it’s very rare to see a Japanese hotel serving melons and oranges without peeling off the skin of the fruits. It’s also rare to see no choice of soy milk at a Japanese hotel. Bathroom cleanliness also needs improvement - there was hair from previous guests.

Great hotel in the heart of Ikebukuro. It’s more quiet and loosely packed compared to Shibuya or Shinjuku if you’re into that. Stations for JR lines and other local trains are dotted all around the property. Service and staff are really helpful despite language barriers, although language barriers should be thin these days due to modern technology. If you manage to get a room up high you’ll have a nice view of the city.
