The best time to go to The Dasher is during the summer months, from December to February, when the weather is at its warmest and most stable, offering ideal conditions for outdoor activities.

During this period, you can expect long daylight hours, often extending until 9 PM, which is superb for exploring the walking trails and enjoying the scenic beauty of the Otago region. The temperatures are comfortably mild, averaging around 20-25 degrees Celsius, making it pleasant for activities like fly fishing in the Dasher River or hiking the surrounding hills. This is also when the local flora is in full bloom, adding to the picturesque landscape. For those who enjoy a more relaxed pace, the summer season allows for leisurely picnics by the river or simply unwinding in the comfortable lodges.

Alternatively, the shoulder seasons of autumn (March to May) and spring (September to November) also offer good conditions with fewer crowds and often more competitive pricing. Autumn brings stunning autumnal colours to the landscape, particularly in the vineyards of the nearby Gibbston Valley, while spring sees the region burst into new life with blooming flowers and newborn lambs.
