"When you arrive at the hotel car park the outside looks lovely and is a real sun trap for outdoor drinks. It’s a bit tricky finding reception from the car park so better signage would be helpful. Some areas of the hotel feel a little worn like the red carpet on the reception stairs entrance and the bathroom area of the room I stayed in, and the jacuzzi was out of order on my stay too which was a little disappointing. Most of the staff were really friendly and helpful (bar staff, cleaners and spa in particular) but there were a couple of occasions when I wasn’t acknowledged by small groups of staff. The room was spacious, very clean and comfortable. The bar area had a good atmosphere and the food was really tasty! Thai red curry special was a highlight of my stay. Breakfast was also really good with plenty of options. The gym is really well equipped and wasn’t too busy. Overall it’s a good hotel but needs a bit of tidying up."

"The Lion Hotel is ideally situated to explore Shrewsbury on foot and you can leave your car on the property, pay at the desk rather than the machine for £5 per day. It is a property that is both historic and with character, having said that the communal areas looked very tired. The room was spacious with a high ceiling, brown furniture and bare floorboards which squeaked with every step so be aware if you are prone to waltzing in your sleep."

"Cannot really fault The Sutherland. The room was spotless, the bathroom spotless, the bed comfortable. I stayed 2 nights for work the room, whilst small, was more than adequate for my needs. The restaurant is fantastic. The pace of service perfect for me, I did not feel at all rushed. The food was not only presented beautifully, but was delicious. I cannot recommend the duck breast highly enough! I stay in hotels regularly with my work and The Sutherland is now on my Go To list. "

"The reception staf was helpful but not very polite. Room was nice but was cold in the morning as heating was switched off.. Id rather have no heating in the evening under the blanket then to wake up into a cold room. "

"I just needed a nice, clean room for an impromptu overnight stay. I stayed in room 3 and it was my first booking with this property. I checked in after 9pm and staff were friendly and welcoming. The provisions laid out in the room for breakfast were really welcome and well presented. The bed was comfortable and clean as was the bathroom. Only negatives were one of the outer panes of glass in the window were smashed, which was a bit concerning. The other was the extractor fan in the bathroom was almost blocked with caked on dust. Nasty! I enjoyed my stay and would likely stay again even with the slight negatives. "
