The hotel was a bit tired, it could do with some regeneration. The photos online are misleading - the bar and restaurant are in the hotel reception - it wasn't the nice photos with the glossy looking bar in the period building overlooking the gardens. That bar is part of the hall as opposed to the hotel, and wasn't open. It also looked really run down. The food was fine - it was very reasonably priced but the menu was a bit basic. At breakfast a lot of the buffet food was running out and there was no staff there monitoring it to ensure it got topped-up. Beer/cider in bottles in the hotel bar fridge were not cold enough. There was an issue with the electrics while I was staying, where the lights in the room wouldn't turn on, and some other guests had no electricity at all. The issue got resolved very quickly (within hours) however the staff weren't particularly reassuring or apologetic about it. Actually they came across as a bit defensive. Generally, I found the hotel and restaurant staff to be a bit inattentive and lacking a bit of professionalism. It seemed like the hotel was understaffed during my stay as there was often no-one at reception or the restaurant. The equipment in the gym was good, and the spa/gym staff were very friendly and helpful. It should be noted, though, that there was an additional cost of £12 per person per day for hotel guests to use the spa and gym, which I didn't think was clear on the website.

This hotel is beautiful, the staff are amazing. We had a garden view room and it was lovely to watch the wildlife in the morning

A great dog friendly hotel. The little ‘dog box’ in the room was a nice touch. Comfortable room with everything you would need, just found the bed a little soft for our liking. Good enough breakfast to start your day, but the different stations seemed very far apart on other sides of the restaurant
