My boyfriend and I were pretty disappointed with the “resort”. They did not mention online that the “all-inclusive” didn’t include the nice restaurants that they advertise- only a mediocre buffet. The snack bar was very gross and the buffet food gave us food poisoning. We found plastic in our food too. They say they’ll give you free waters but then lied to my face twice when I asked for some to take my medication with- they wanted us to drink the regular water at the buffet.. then finally a nice lady gave us some water bottles so they were in the fridge the whole time, they just lie. I could understand if it was a cheap hotel but this was supposed to be an all-inclusive resort. The pool was gorgeous but closed at 9pm which we thought was really early. Our shower had a smell of sewer coming through the drain. The housekeeper cleaned our room twice, well, but both times forgot a bath mat for us. My boyfriend cut his knee on the rocks at the beach and they only had bandaids, no ointment or first aid kit. We also would’ve preferred to hear Costa Rican music instead of cheesy American music.. I will say I appreciated the kindness of most of the staff and I liked that my room stayed cold. The beach was a pretty location, but we won’t be staying here again.

My experience at Costa Rica was nice. However, there were several issues at the hotel that took four days for them to address. They finally switched rooms but a little late. The food left much to be desired. Left the hotel to find food that would live up to my expectations of Costa Rican food.

I had a nice stay at occidental however I feel the resort should update the lighting on the resort. At nite it’s pretty dark. And they need to have make sure your rooms are stocked with wash clothes. I went several days begging for wash clothes. I had to use the hand towels to bathe. And thank god one of my friends from the trip gave me one because she had multiple. And they also need to have options to eat after 10pm.

Occidental Tamarindo is a smaller resort. The food was limited but good. If you're looking for a mega resort to hang out at stick to Mexico but if you're going to see Costa Rica this is a nice place.

I really wanted this to be a good stay. There’s so much room for potential in such a beautiful place but it needs work. They ran out of ice almost every day, the staff was friendly but you can tell they’re short staffed. The rooms need to be updated. The WiFi only works well near the pool and reception area. The pool was warm, and with the heat it’s not helpful to keep cool. Over all it was an OK stay. The location is secluded and the beach access and activities by the staff made it fun.

I definitely enjoyed our time at Occidental, the staff are all super nice (especially someone working in the entertainment of the resort, I forgot his name, who took the time to learn our names and would always say Hello and was overall such an amazing person)and the location of the hotel is in a nice little corner on the beach allowing you to swim in a natural current that is between two beaches. It was our 10 year anniversary and the hotel provided us with a nice bottle of wine when we arrived and a nice surprise in our room with flowers! Thank you!! Some things they should do to improve satisfaction: 1. Shower head in our room was old and was not pouring the water properly. 2. Cleanliness of the pool more often. 3. Consider cooling the pool for super hot days. 4. They had an event during our last day that they only advertised 30 minutes prior to. They should definitely advertise this to the guests more in advance as it was a fun show to watch and I feel like more guests would enjoy it with proper advertising for said events. Buffet was like a Golden Corral . pools were to warm to be refreshing. Noise from the disco was so loud that I couldn’t sleep and staff could or would not accommodate my request to move rooms.

The pool was not very clean, food near the pool was always soggy, not many choices to choose from always the same thing, receptionist very inappropriate they would make fun of people who didn’t speak Spanish so unprofessional. Personally they need to get them to learn matters and be polite.. buffet was always the same food not that many choices.. you can not drink alcoholic beverages inside the pool, entertainment was a little boring not much the same 4 people all the time..

For all inclusive there was only buffet and the food was not good and only offered at limited times. My room was 20 feet from the amphitheater and it was extremely loud at night. My only entrance to my room was a sliding glass door and I did not feel secure.

Overall a great experience at this hotel. The rooms were spacious and clean, the staff were very helpful and friendly and the beach beside the resort was a great place to spend time. A wonderful beach to watch the sunset from. The all inclusive food and drinks were convenient but the food options don’t change much for each day in the main buffet restaurant although you have the option to book the other 2 restaurants in advance (Italian or Japanese). We chose to eat dinner out a few nights as well for a change. If we come back to Tamarindo again, we would choose Occidental tal Tamarindo again.

Jusy was our saving grace but everything else was very disappointing. They had a water shortage the waiters, bartenders, and front desk are in need of a customer service training. We had so many issues, lack of water, broken safes, no towels and they would say we are on our way and it took 2 days! I watched the front desk ignore the phone knowing my husband was calling and they wouldn’t pick up. I watched a poor girl tell them that her toilet was broken and it had been a full day and she was scared of having to go use lobby bathroom because they hadn’t fixed hers.

The buffet was decent but the week we were there, we were only able to get 1 dinner reservation. The quality of alcohol was very low. And the drinks were definitely watered down. Not being able to have your drink in or near the pool with something I didn’t like. The staff started cleaning around the pool once we were already there. The beach access was a wonderful plus.

This is our second time to this resort. We like that its small and on a gorgeous beach. Love the eiver that runs on the side of the resort into the ocean. Fun watching surfers. The buffet is very good and fresh. The bartenders are friendly and fast. The entertsinment by the pool was very upbeat. Its so close to town. You can walk or take a $6 cab ride. We would definitly return. A good experience. Not fancy but has a nice vibe to it. The price can't be beat!!

The facts. Check in quick and easy. Rooms spacious. Two queen beds. Bathroom clean. TV not really useful. All rooms close walk to all facilities. Food very good and plentiful. Amazing fresh fruit - papaya, pineapple, mango etc. Two formal dining options - Japanese and Italian. Some items excellent some hot or miss. Those dining rooms never seemed full. Have to book ahead. Gym has three exercise bikes, only one with digital read out, others manual adjust resistance. Several stair climbers. Could be better air conditioned. Opens at 7am. Pool large and never over crowded. If you place a towel early enough you will get a lounge chair at pool or beach. Snack bar open all day but food a bit old - hot dogs, burgers, pizza, nachos, fries. Beach access easy and close. Large amounts of volcanic rock impede swimming in some areas. High tide limits swims due to waves and currents. But lower tide offers lots of access. Staff all friendly and helpful. Bit of a chore to get to Tamarindo town or beach. Can walk but 20 minutes in hear. Taxi is $US8. Or bus once per hour. If you want vast open beach for miles stay closer to Tamarindo. Check out quick and seamless. Airport transfer 90-120 minutes arranged thru Victor $US100 for six of us one way.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our time at Occidental Tamarindo! The resort exceeded all our expectations with its stunning beauty. The service was exceptional, the beach was breathtaking, and the cuisine was delightful. The sunsets over the beach were truly mesmerizing! I highly recommend trying the Kyoto Japanese Restaurant for an exquisite dining experience - the sushi was absolutely incredible!

The food at this resort is absolutely horrible. The breakfast buffet is okay. The lunch buffet is disgusting and was the same food over and over. The dinner buffet was just as bad. We ended up going into town for lunch and dinner the remaining of our stay. The pool snack bar food is disgusting and I can not believe they get away with serving this food. Absolutely not even edible. Dried up and the bread is hard like a hickey puck. Most of the time the food was not even out at the listed times.

What a beautiful and clean resort in paradise. We chose to stay here to enjoy the surf and sun and it certainly didn’t disappoint. Truly one of the most beautiful beaches we have ever had the privilege to be on, with breathtaking sunsets, so relaxing and everyone was so kind and helpful. Not as many food options as we have had in other resorts we have stayed in, but still not a complaint..we aren’t picky about food choices. Would highly recommend and would definitely stay here again.

This small resort has good qualities such as the pools/waterway off of the ocean ( good for wading and children), shady beach area, and gardens throughout the property. Service side was poor possibly because of staffing shortages. Rarely seen a server by the pool and in the dining room. Often went without a drink aside from water. Everything was self serve! Entertainers were skills dancers. Would like to see a variety of evening entertainment and more pool games to make things more lively. It’s a budget resort with average rating.

It was a lovely spot on the beach. Fabulous surfing and great activity. We enjoyed the quiet area compared to the city. Low key. Rooms were good sized and very clean.

We traveled with three couples. Our rooms were not ready when we arrived and we felt like the checkin staff was very rude. We were repeatedly told to sit down and wait. When we got to the rooms there was no towels, the complementary items were not in the refrigerator. One couple had to end up being moved to another room because of drainage issues in the shower. There were other issues along the way that were frustrating. The food in general was very good. However, the ice machine never worked until the last day and we always had to ask for the soda machine to be turned on at breakfast. We did enjoy the entertainment and the other staff seemed friendly. There was one young lady at the front desk that went above and beyond to be helpful when she realized our frustration. We had a massage at the beach by locals and it was wonderful. We had fun, but I personally feel like the managment needs to make adjustments to improve the overall experience.

They try but miss the mark.
This is a 5 star resort? I would give it 3. The food was ok but basically the same menu for the entire time we were there. The pasta in the Italian restaurant was crunchy. (undercooked) and the chicken was not hot. The bars had drinks but there was no gin although gin drinks were listed on their menu. One day there was no vodka. That made the drinks rather limited, so we walked to town and bought gin and tonic. The snackbar foods were things like hamburgers that sat under a light for hours, popcorn with no butter or seasonings, soggy onion rings, so the snack bar foods were not very edible. We kept saying 'well, they're trying!' The pool was nice with great seating and a short walk to the ocean. The grounds are beautiful and the room comfortable. The maid service was fantastic with cleaning and leaving daily beverages. We won't go back to this Occiental because it's not cheap and we'd rather go out to eat instead of the repetitive menu when we return to Costa Rica. The first few days were great but after maybe 3 days we felt like we were eating the same thing every day. We started walking to local restaurants for dinner. The desk staff were wonderful as was any staff member. So basically my main complaint is the food and availabilty of alcohol which to me, is part of an all inclusive experience.

This resort is ok - nothing outstanding, nothing terrible, average cost. Quiet, smaller resort, staff were nice, had amenities one would expect at an all inclusive, rooms could use a refresh but otherwise comfortable. Basic service levels. Food in the main buffet restaurant was great, good taste, enough variety for a small resort. Themed restaurant (Italian) was adequate.

The pool and beach access was wonderful. Contrary to other reviews we thought the food was fine. Went to the show one night and there was no bar open to order drinks, possibly you could order at the disco to bring out to show. Easy to get a taxi to town or walk. Jucy is wonderful for any questions or excursions you would like to plan. Rooms are older but suited our needs, AC worked great however we had a few times where there was no hot water for showering. Assuming busy time. For the price can’t complain this resort met our needs and we had a great trip.

Long wait to check in. The room was not clean, no bath towels, sink was leaking, toilet not shutting off, the refrigerator was not stocked and the AC stopped working. The food was ok. The Italian restaurant food was unacceptable someone needs to teach them how to cook.
