"Everyone is friendly and hotel is clean. Love the rooms have shampoo, conditioner, hand soap and lotion. The coffee machine brews a fresh cup in the lobby and is not old coffee all day. Plenty of seats, tv, computers and tables to hangout in the lobby. I always love staying here!"

![This nifty metropark in downtown Dayton is a combination of farmer's market and local craft sale with food stands. It's only open Thursday - Saturday. Great place to pick up some local produce or dairy or honey, get some lunch while enjoying live music, and find a couple nifty local knick-knacks. The Deeds Carillon, the largest carillon in Ohio had been transformed into the shape of a holiday tree towering 200 feet in the air and glowing with 20,000 white lights.

The plan was for the Carillon Tree of Light to be turned on nightly through New Year’s Day and be accompanied by the bells playing a medley of holiday classics on the hour.

I went on Sunday night and stood in wonderment of the melodic bells and the strands of light enhancing the already majestic silhouette of the carillon. 

Overnight, wind gusts in excess of 40 or even 50 miles per hour damaged many of the strands of light. By morning, the damage was such that the display was beyond repair and will now be taken down for the year.

A carillon is a musical instrument that is typically housed in the belfry of a church or municipal building. The instrument consists of at least 23 cast bronze, cup-shaped bells.

The tower was built in 1942 to commemorate the Deeds family. When the tower was built, each of 23 bells was inscribed with the name of a family member, with the “silent” bells bearing the names of deceased family members and ringing bells cast with the names of family members then living. 

Today, with 57 bells, the carillon is Ohio’s largest. I'm not sure how much competition there is in that category.

The National Park Service listed the Deeds Carillon on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.

![Tumbleweed is one of the many funky bars in Dayton's historic Oregon District.  The decor is bizarre and you'll probably spot something new and entertaining every time you're there, no matter how many times that's been!  There's a small second story area which affords a great view of the stage (pictured), where they've got live music several days a week.  There's also an outdoor deck which is open in the summer and plastic-wrapped in winter so the smokers can still use it. "The reason why I am giving this hotel a bad rating is because the pool and hot tub were both disgusting and 2 of our kids got skin issues because of it. My one son is covered in sores all over his stomach and some of his back. My other son had both eyes with sores on them that were painful. It was awful! As far as breakfast goes, it was pretty good except the pancake machine was broken. The rooms were pretty clean overall. "

"The employee at the front desk was one of the rudest humans I have ever had the displeasure to encounter. No greeting, no smile, nothing but attitude from start to finish. She asked for both adult’s identification when checking in which my husband inquired about because we had never encountered that at any hotel in any state ever. She replied, “show it or don’t stay here”. He never refused and was just inquiring because we have never been asked to do that anywhere else and it wasn’t listed anywhere when booking so could be an issue for people if only one adult had their id with them. The entire interaction she kept saying “you don’t have to stay here”. She didn’t have a name badge and when we asked her name she ignored us. She finally growled, “Anna” after we asked 3 times and she stated she was reporting us to management. If we wouldn’t have lost our money we would have left. When we get to the room it smelled like cat urine, there was a dead roach in the fridge, and just overall very grimy. Our kids were literally crying asking to stay in the car. One of the worst experiences I’ve ever had! "
