The village centre is quite compact, with a few historic buildings and a church. Accommodation here often consists of gites (holiday homes) or chambre d'hôtes (bed and breakfasts), providing an authentic local feel. It's a place for those who appreciate natural beauty and a relaxed pace.

Couples looking for a peaceful escape will find Sommant ideal. Many properties are set amidst the countryside, offering privacy and lovely views of the landscape. It's superb for enjoying long walks, cycling, or simply unwinding away from the hustle and bustle. The nearby Lac des Settons provides opportunities for water activities, while Autun, with its Roman ruins and medieval cathedral, is a short drive away for cultural excursions.

For those travelling with a family, staying in a gite in Sommant or a nearby hamlet offers space and flexibility. These accommodations often come with fully equipped kitchens, multiple bedrooms, and sometimes even gardens, allowing families to self-cater and have room for children to play.

The best time to go to Sommant is during the late spring (May-June) and early autumn (September-October) for pleasant weather and fewer crowds.

These shoulder seasons offer comfortable temperatures for exploring the Bourgogne region's countryside, vineyards, and historic towns without the peak summer heat or the larger tourist numbers. You'll find the landscape lush in spring and beautifully coloured in autumn, making it ideal for scenic drives and outdoor activities.

For couples seeking a romantic getaway, these months are particularly appealing. The weather is superb for leisurely walks through vineyards, enjoying al fresco dining, and visiting local markets. Many châteaux and wineries are fully operational, offering tastings and tours in a more relaxed setting than the busier summer months.

Families travelling with older children might also find these times suitable. The milder weather is conducive to cycling along canal paths or exploring the Morvan Regional Natural Park.
