The Retreat at Center Hill Lake
10/10 Excellent
"Customer service by Elisha was excellent! Before arrival, she sent me an email to check on my status as I was unreachable on my non-US number and needed to confirm on my reservation. The place is so tranquil; upon arrival, I immediately extended for another night, knowing that I would enjoy the peace and quiet. There were a few guests around, and we all had our own spaces - I went on my runs around the compound while others had their activities. The kitchen was self sufficient - I could cook simple meals with the appliances provided. The bed was so comfortable - my watch measured that as my best sleep in months. All the information & recommendations were written down so it was easy to navigate around the area to places close by. Tried Rose Garden Restaurant for dinner as recommended and it did not disappoint. Drove to Smithville downtown and spent half a day chatting with the local store owners/residents. Also did a 3hrs kayak with Canoe the Caney nearby and had an easy day out. There is no lack of activities if one wishes to do. Overall, the place provided the serenity I was looking for before heading back to city life. Very glad to have found this place!"
"We had our annual Girl's Trip here and it was exactly what we needed. The lake access was easy and a great lake beach, in the afternoon's we enjoyed the plunge pool, and we loved having our morning coffee with that view. Jessica and Tyler were great hosts with great communication. There were a few little drawbacks, such as the number of plates or bowls for our group (we had 7). But overall, the place was thoughtfully stocked and set up and we appreciated the attention to detail. I would definitely stay here again, but maybe with a slightly smaller group."
"We had a fabulous week at this beautiful, modern, and well-maintained home! It was perfect for our group of 17, with plenty of space and a separate area for the kids. The kitchen was fully stocked with high-end appliances, cookware, and plenty of dishes. Beds were super comfortable, and we loved the peaceful setting with deer sightings and birdsong morning and evening. We enjoyed kayaking—having wheels to get them to the launch was a big help. Renting a pontoon from J Beez Watercraft was another highlight—we swam in a quiet holler and went tubing in the afternoon. Just note that the dock is technically in a campground, and someone mentioned we shouldn’t be there, but it wasn’t a big issue.Jason was an excellent host—responsive, helpful, and kind enough to mail back items we forgot. We also visited Fall Creek State Park (great waterfall swimming!) and took a day trip to Nashville, just an hour away. The only minor downside was that while Floating Mill Park is nearby, the walk is about 200 yards downhill, and the small beach has a slippery concrete ramp. Water shoes would help. All in all, a fantastic place for a family getaway. Highly recommend!"
"WOW! My husband and our four friends had the most incredible time at this property! The property itself was cute as a button with two glorious wrap-around porches, a VERY well-stocked kitchen which made cooking a breeze, and it was clean and comfortable with enough seating and social areas. I think we used every room in the house! This property has some essentials I always care about: 1. Extremely comfortable beds and the ability to stay cool at night. 2. Good water pressure in the shower!3. SO MUCH STUFF TO DO! The trek down to the water definitely is steep, but we had so much fun swimming in the lake below. We loved the pool table and even utilized some of the tabletop games they have stored downstairs. Lovely setting. We would definitely return! This property is absolutely ideal for groups of friends who want to get away from it all. The stairs do make it more ideal for an older crowd; kids 8 and older would get a kick out of it. Any younger, and you'll have to keep a close eye on them around the stairs, though they did provide a child gate. :)Honestly, I loved this experience. The hosts were great, the location was great, and we had just a magical time!"
"This was the first time I’ve ever not stayed in a hotel so I was extremely nervous booking here. This property was the best first experience I think I could’ve ever had! Me and my partner are both in college so price was a really big factor in where we were able to stay. When I saw the price of this cabin I thought it may be a little more lower end just because it was comparatively inexpensive to anything else I saw. We were absolutely blown away when we went through the door though! The cabin was so nice and clean, very comfortable, and just had great vibes all around! The cabin was stocked with soaps and shampoos, towels, etc. which was so great to see. We came on a weekend that was stormy and loveeeeed sitting on the porch and listening to the rain (metal roof for the win). We had no issues with heat at all which was definitely great for the 90 degree 80% humidity weather. The area the cabin was in was also just amazing, it seemed so safe and was very well kept. Nice people everywhere and it just felt so great to come out of the cabin and see my kayaks still on my car roof haha. The cabin is smaller so keep that in mind for larger groups, I can say it would likely sleep 4 people comfortably, but if you’re just coming for a couple’s vacay or small family trip with kiddos this is the place!! Cannot stress enough how incredible this cabin and its manager was, it’s definitely staying on our list for future stays!"
"We had a great stay! The property was clean, comfortable, and exactly as advertised. We stayed with our two small dogs and it was a perfect fit for all of us. Check-in was easy, and everything we needed was provided. We really enjoyed our time here and would definitely stay again."

"Gather with family from Iowa, Ohio, Oklahoma and local Cookeville area! Shannon is an amazing host. After another VRBO host canceled on us, just 22 days prior to our stay, Shannon was available for all my last minutes questions and got us booked. The location was perfect—peaceful and private, yet close to everything we wanted to explore. Whether we were relaxing on the four seasons room, enjoying the cozy living space, or cooking in the well-equipped kitchen, it was clear the hosts put a lot of care into making this a true home away from home.Communication was seamless and welcoming, with quick responses and helpful tips throughout our stay. We didn’t want to leave and are already dreaming of coming back. Highly recommend this gem to anyone looking for comfort, style, and an all-around top-notch experience!"
