Nice hotel. Very close to transportation and beach
The Westin hotel is in a very nice location on Grand Cayman and is in the process of renovations. The hotel décor is excellent, however I was not impressed with the service at the front-desk. We stayed there for eleven nights. Upon check in, the room that we were promised was not ready so we had to move to another room for one night. During our wait for the room, the gentleman who worked at the bar area was very kind to us and kept inquiring to see how we were doing because he sensed that we were agitated with our wait. He even offered us a drink while we were waiting.
After finally settling in our room the second night, things began to go smoothly until the evening of the seventh night. Upon return from the beach, our room keys did not work. We went to the front desk and had to wait about fifteen minutes (there were a lot of people checking in at the time) before being attended to. The problem was corrected only after the person at the front desk sent one of the staff to accompany us to the room in order to verify our identities (which we did with our passports). What amazes me is that on the two occasions we ordered drinks on the beach, no identity verification was requested after giving the waiter our names and room number. I would hate to think that our ethnicity had anything to do with the request for verification of our identities after since we had been to the front desk several times to exchange currencies and obtain information.
