Find hotels in Salina from CA $62

The best areas to stay in Salina are Santa Marina Salina and Malfa, both offering excellent bases for exploring the island.

Santa Marina Salina is the island's main port and a bustling hub. It's where most ferries arrive and depart, making it incredibly convenient for travellers. The main street, Via Risorgimento, runs parallel to the seafront and is lined with shops, restaurants, and gelaterias. You'll find a good selection of hotels and B&Bs here, many with views of the sea and the neighbouring island of Lipari. The area is well-connected by bus to other parts of Salina.

For couples seeking a blend of convenience and a lively option, Santa Marina Salina is an excellent choice. Its easy access to transport makes day trips to other Aeolian islands straightforward. You can enjoy evening strolls along the promenade, dine at waterfront restaurants, and browse the local boutiques. The port area also offers options for renting scooters or cars to explore the island at your own pace.

Malfa, located on the northern coast, offers a more relaxed and picturesque setting. This village is known for its stunning sea views, particularly from its main square, Piazza Immacolata. It's a quieter option compared to Santa Marina, with a lovely pebble beach, Pollara, which is famous for its dramatic cliffs and crystal-clear waters. Malfa also has a good selection of high-quality hotels and villas.

Families often find Malfa appealing due to its more laid-back character and access to beautiful beaches. The less crowded environment allows for a peaceful holiday. The village has a few local shops and restaurants, providing all the essentials without feeling overly touristy.

The best time to visit Salina is during the shoulder seasons of May, early June, or September.

These months offer warm, pleasant weather, superb for enjoying the island's natural beauty without the intense heat and larger crowds of the peak summer months. You'll find the sea warm enough for swimming, and all the local businesses will be fully open.

Couples looking for a relaxing escape will find these times ideal. The walking trails, like the ascent to Monte Fossa delle Felci, are more comfortable to explore, and you can enjoy the island's seafood restaurants and vineyards at a more leisurely pace. It's also a wonderful time for boat trips around the island or to nearby Stromboli to see the active volcano.

Travellers seeking a tranquil and premium experience will appreciate the quieter atmosphere.
