The best area to stay in Rumpel is the Old Town (Altstadt), especially around the Marktplatz.

The Old Town is the historic heart of Rumpel, characterised by its cobbled streets, half-timbered buildings, and the impressive Rumpel Cathedral. The Marktplatz, or Market Square, is the central point, often bustling with local markets and outdoor cafes. You'll find most of Rumpel's main attractions, shops, and restaurants within easy walking distance here.

Couples often find the Old Town ideal for a romantic getaway. The charming streets and historic architecture create a lovely backdrop for strolls, and there are many cosy restaurants and wine bars great for an evening out. The proximity to the Rumpel Castle gardens also offers a pleasant retreat for a quiet afternoon.

For those looking for a slightly quieter, yet still central, experience, the area just north of the Old Town, across the Rumpel River, is a good option. It offers a more residential feel with pleasant guesthouses and smaller hotels, while still being only a short walk over one of the pedestrian bridges to the main sights.

The best time to visit Rumpel is during the late spring or early autumn months, specifically from May to June or September to October.

These periods offer pleasant weather conditions, with comfortable temperatures that are ideal for exploring the region's natural beauty and outdoor activities. You'll find the countryside lush and green in spring, and adorned with beautiful colours in autumn, making it great for leisurely walks or cycling along the Schlei Fjord.

For those who enjoy water-based activities like sailing or kayaking, the warmer late spring and early autumn days provide calm waters and fewer crowds than the peak summer months. This allows for a more tranquil experience on the fjord.

Families travelling with children might also appreciate these times, as the weather is agreeable for outdoor play without the intense heat or larger crowds often found in July and August.
