The property is well maintained and beautiful. There are several resorts, one after another, and this one is just as pretty as some of the more expensive ones on the end of the island. Also, \*\*You must have cash on hand for tipping just about everyone\*\* I did not know this and it became a problem when I ran out of cash on day 2… Anyway, the buffet options are wonderful. There is a theme for dinner each night so it’s not the same foods over and over. Not having to worry about my meals was a huge relief. Apparently the buffet is $30 if purchased separately per meal. The rooms were cleaned daily. The resort website recommended tipping the cleaning staff $3-4 daily, but I only stumbled upon that by accident. Plan accordingly. The beach area is beautiful and well set up. You will be able to exchange your towel daily and have an umbrella set up for you, but you should tip this gentleman as well since he maintains his area. I think there are 2 of them that split this duty. Mayan has a lot of beach space in front of it, unlike Infinity and Kimpton and a few others in that direction which are basically falling into the ocean—meaning the tide comes right up to the resort, so there isn’t a lot of space for chairs AND people traffic. Staff is really nice and very attentive. I felt safe. There are shops within walking distance. You can snorkel on the reef just by walking down the beach a ways. Top notch!" We had a rental car but could have used local cabs—West End and West Bay are close and affordable, and Libby was a great driver. The location is ideal for exploring gardens, nature parks, and avoiding cruise ship crowds. The beach has soft sand, reclining chairs, free paddle boards and kayaks and the reef is an easy swim (or use kayak/paddleboard to get to the reef and tie off on a buoy) for snorkeling. The pool was always clean and cool. Thanks to Jojo, Johnny, Cesar, Jessie, Jericho, Selema, Carlos, Becca, Kim, and Josh for making us feel welcome.
