This is a small, clean, comfortable house next to a classic island home on over 2.5 acres of private property with fruit trees. The property extends from the road to the beach in a quiet, safe area of Sandy Bay, at Spooky Channel in the Marine Reserve - includes use of the private dock, bezch lounge chairs, firepit, kayaks, snorkel equipment, etc.
Exceptional snorkeling and diving right out front at Spooky Channel. Sandy Bay is shallow and the reef is a short swim, kayak, or float from the end of the dock. The dock is private for the community, has stairs and a fresh water shower. You can get picked up for diving, snorkeling, or fishing right from the dock from the reputable Blue Island Divers or Sandy Bay Divers here in Sandy Bay.
We continue to upgrade the house with modern furniture and furnishing (inside and on the deck), new linens, electronics, dishes, cutlery, kitchen appliances, new AC, and BBQ.
We, the owners, live on-site in a classic island house and are available to provide information, arrange transportation and activities, borrow cooking ingredients/utensils and assist you any way we can to make your vacation as enjoyable as possible.
If you're staying six days or more, we can personally pick you up at the airport, take you to the grocery store, then to the guest house. otherwise taxis and car rentals are available at thd airport. We provide information about the guest house, the area, the island, and answer any questions you may have We will bring you back to the airport at the end of your vacation and can print any tickets/boarding docs.
You are welcome to the fruit from any of our trees/bushes on-site. We have coconuts (year round), cashews, papayas, mangos, noni's, breadfruit, bananas, plantains, soursop, starfruit, and avocados, (seasonally).
Roatan is very casual. You can go just about anywhere in t-shirt, beach coverup and flip-flops. Don't pack too much. Do bring a positive attitude and an open mind. Remember that Roatan is still part of a developing country.
• Swimming, snorkeling, fishing, and world-class diving is easily accessible on the coral reef right out front off the dock. The dock has a freshwater shower and covered area. • We are ideally located 10 minutes from West End, where you’ll find many dive centers, restaurants, beach bars, shopping, and small grocery stores and also 10 minutes from Coxen Hole, the major town on the island. • Large, screened porch with fans, seating, table, lighting, BBQ • Air conditioning in the bedroom and living room /kitchen (on request),ceiling fans throughout, mobile fans, reading lights. • Fully equipped kitchen, modern appliances, filtered water/water cooler • Washing machine (w/detergent) and a clothesline off the deck • Free WiFi access on-site and cell phone (phone provided with 20-30 minutes locally. • 1 - 2 person and 1 one person kayak, 2 mountain bikes, paddleboard, beach lounge chairs, hammocks, snorkel marker, floatation devices, snorkel equipment, beach front picnic facilities, horseshoes, volleyball - all included, (guitar and djembe drum available upon request). • On deck is a gas BBQ (charcoal BBQ and fire pit available). • 43” flat screen TV with local cable. DVD player and DVD library with about 200 movies, and speakers for mp3 or phone hookup.
To enjoy your stay, it's best if you're OK with dogs. We have 2 dogs that are good with guests but do bark when unfamiliar people or dogs come around, but they provide great security. We don't let them bark too much and clean up after them daily.

FAQs:
Q: How do you get to Roatan? A: Lots of options but they vary by time of the year. The major airlines are American out of Miami and Dallas, United out of Houston, Delta out of Atlanta, Sun country out of Minneapolis, Sunwing or other charters out of Toronto and Montreal. Spirit Airlines to San Pedro Sula, HN, then CM Airlines or others here. This info changes often so email me and I'll try to help
Q: Do I need local currency (Lempiras). A: No, just bring US dollars (Canadian dollars and Euros are not generally accepted). Make sure the bills are in very good condition. There are cash machines as well. Make sure your bank knows your travel plans so they do not cancel your credit card for suspicious use. Credit cards are generally accepted for larger purchases but you can often get a better deal paying cash. If you'll be taking taxis, we can exchange money at bank rate for you to get you started, then just use US and get change in local Lempiras.
Q: What are prices there? A: Prices for groceries and meals out are about the same as in the US and Canada. If you buy local products it's cheaper, American products cost a bit more. Alcohol is generally much cheaper.
Q: How do I stay connected electronically (wifi, phone)? A: We have a fiber optic mesh system that lets you connect from several places on the property. We have upgraded to a upper level system but it is not US standard. I use various online communications systems - FB messenger, What's App, Zoom, Netflix...that work pretty well here. There are also lots of temp plans that you can get short term that work well here. Phone calls or minutes to US cost about $.10 - 15 cents a minute while not using local WiFi. Best to put your phone on airplane mode to avoid expensive roaming charges.
Q: Are Roatan and Sandy Bay safe? A: Yes, we think so. There is opportunistic crime mainly involving electronics left unattended. Rentals that are in local barrios or where people can pass freely very close to the house have more issues. Places with owners on site, dogs, and are well lit have very few problems. We, and our guests have had no issues with crime in 17 years. That said, use common sense as you would anywhere.
Q: What do I need to bring (and not bring)? A: Bring less clothes that you think you need. We have a washer and clothes line. Quick drying, light clothes, light rain jacket, slip on shoes, bug spray that works for you, necessary medications (although most are cheap here and do not require prescriptions) are key. We have snorkel gear if you want to check out the reef, but if you have a good fitting mask and snorkel, bring it. Don't bother with tie-on shoes, socks, jewelry, beach towels, or hair dryer.
Q:Are the bugs bad? A: The house is raised 10 feet and completely screened and on the beach with good breezes to minimize bugs. However, bring bug spray or you can buy it here for exploring. We keep the house very clean to deter any bugs inside, but leaving food and beverages out can attract bugs, so it's best to keep the house tidy.
Q: What should I buy when I arrive (and not buy)? A: Buy whatever you would like to eat for the first few days. We go to the store every couple days and are happy to take you along. The house is stocked with a water cooler, spices, condiments, sugar, coffee filters, oils, vinegar, soaps, cleaning supplies, paper towels, TP... If you need anything that is not there, just ask.
Q: Do I need an international drivers license to drive there? A: No. A valid drivers license from your country and state is fine.

We had a wonderful time at the Spooky Channel guest house! The property was beautiful, exactly as described. Clean, comfortable and well maintained. Al and Sandra shared lots of valuable information both before and during our stay. It really helped us relax and enjoy our first trip to Roatan. The dogs were so sweet and well behaved. Best location on the island!
We stayed in Al and Sandra's guest house for a week, and it felt like home! The location is amazing, right on the beach and on a beautiful lot (we ate starfruits right off the tree!). Very safe and quiet area, but a quick and e
We had a wonderful getaway. The Spooky Channel guest house was just what we were looking for. Relaxing beachfront location off the beaten path. Great snorkeling in the reef not far from the dock. Our hosts provided great hospitality.
We have been to Roatan many times but always stayed at West Bay which has become over run and really noisy over the years. We were so happy to find this wonderful beach house to stay in which was anmazing and had everything we were looking for - comfort, quiet, great hospitality, well stocked, clean and very comfortable. Much better snorkelling just off their pier than West Bay too. We didn’t leave the property the entire time, just swam with the fishes and chilled out! Highly recommend!
Thanks Al and Sandra - we loved our stay at your cottage. The Island of Roatan was wonderful! Great people - good food and the snorkeling was very fun. Enjoyed the fresh picked Star Fruit for breakfast and the freshly roasted cashews that Al shared with us:)
The previous reviews are dead on. The beach house is comfortable and well stocked. The hosts are extremely helpful and go out of their way to ensure you enjoy your stay. Jack, Hope and Molly provide 24/7 security for just a little treat and belly scratch.
Loved staying here for a long weekend. It was perfect, clean, easy to get to, and had great porch to enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning or a glass of wine at night. Owners were next door and were available if we needed anything at all but we didn't because the house had everything! Would book again!
We had a wonderful time staying here at Sandra and Al’s place. Such nice welcoming people. Guest house was perfect for my Mother and I. A/C was much appreciated since we didn’t acclimate to the Roatan heat/humidity very well. Would recommend to anyone looking to stay at a nice spot not at a resory
Just what we were looking for. Relaxing on a beachfront home with view of water and awsome snorkling from dock. Clean, nicely located beautiful grounds. Can not wait to come back
We loved our time here. The host(s) have thought of everything you could possibly need and have it available for you! Their hospitality can’t be beat!
The screened in porch was so nice and the sunset views are astounding!
Snorkeling right off the dock was amazing too!
We can’t say enough good things about this property and the host(s)
The only problem we experienced in this glorious place is that we didn't stay long enough. Sandra and Al (and assorted critters -- love them all!) are the perfect hosts; generous and helpful, friendly and available, yet respectful of privacy. The property itself is just amazing! We didn't want to leave those beautiful sunsets, the quiet of a private beach, the farm-like feel of the fruit and nut trees, etc. I'd give this a 10 of 10, easily, and recommend a long stay here for any travelers wanting a local experience full of the best Roatan has to offer.
Seriously stop looking and just book this amazing rental! It's remarkably clean, right on the beach with great dock for watching sunsets or catching a water taxi. Snorkeling is amazing all around Spooky Channel and they have a kayak! Owners are so nice and available for any questions. Only a couple minute drive from West End but easy to catch a taxi at the end of the driveway if you did not rent a car :)
Slice of paradise and extra special for snorkeling
Al & Sandra were outstanding hosts sharing their love and knowledge about Roatan. The house was just as presented on the website and had everything we needed for our three week stay. The galley-style kitchen had all the equipment we needed to prepare meals which we enjoyed on the screened deck; beds were comfortable; ceiling fans were all we needed during the day and the AC was great for sleeping on still nights. The special treat here though is Spooky Chanel and the meso-american reef just 50 yards off the dock which we enjoyed snorkeling every morning. Our sorrow in leaving was tempered by knowing that we will be returning.
If you’re wanting a quiet place in Sandy Bay, this is the place. Al and Sandra are excellent hosts; they transported us to and from the airport, took us grocery shopping, as well as on some fun outings. The home is stocked with everything you need, and if there’s something you do need, Al and Sandra happily share.
Hope and Jack keep the property secure and made us feel safe.
Taxi access is super easy and affordable from the end of the driveway.
We can’t wait to return.
Sweet beach house right on the shore. Al and Sandra are truly nice people, we very much enjoyed our opportunity to visit their accomodation. The reef is literally a stone throw off shore, the kayak let's you get out there in seconds, if you prefer not to swim over. The dogs were great, not in the least bothersome and nice to spend time with if you are missing your dogs. Every recommendation was on point. We will be back.
What a stunning property in an amazing location! Sandra and Al were fantastic hosts. They gave us a lot of great info and tips on what and where to do things on Roatan. They “hooked” us up with a day of fishing and even helped us share the day’s catch, Al even smoked some of the Dorado and tuna. Jack, Hope, Nugget and Molly (subject to final approval) were a ton of fun and were always happy to see us. We couldn’t imagine staying anywhere else when we come back to Roatan. Thank you Sandra and Al. Say hi to kids for us.
Me and my wife both really enjoyed our stay at this property. The hosts were super welcoming and informative on your arrival and live close by if you need or have any additional questions. The house was nice and clean and had all of the basic necessities needed for an enjoyable stay at the property. It felt really safe the whole time we were there and the place and surroundings were super quiet. The view to the beach, ocean and dock were amazing. Its definitely in a more quiet area of the island and we appreciated that very much. Would absolutely stay here again and its not even been 24 hours and we already greatly miss Roatan. Thank you Al & Sandra
Property was described perfectly, Al and Sandra were awesome hosts along with their fun dogs Jack and Hope! Everything was so easy and laid back. House was super clean and well stocked. We felt very safe here no issues with that whatsoever. Snorkeling was awesome right off the private dock there as well as nightly sunsets. West end and west bay are very close and we also ventured to the east side of the island by rental car multiple times very easily. If you are planning to venture around a lot I would recommend a rental. A basic car was $200 for the week at the airport. Would definitely come back again in a heartbeat. Sandra and Al thanks for the great stay.
Don't bother looking further, you've found your Roatan home at Al and Sandra's Spooky Channel guest house. My gosh, just look at the view from the screened and covered deck! Their's is the nicest coconut dappled beach in all of Sandy Bay. Snorkeling the reef from the convenient dock is a world apart, the best snorkeling we've experienced in the Caribbean. We found the guest house perfect for every need and comfort, and our hosts accommodating and supportive in every way possible. Sandra helped us resolve a medical problem by taking us to a good clinic and helping us navigate the protocols--talk about above and beyond all expectations! To sum up, the guest house, your hosts Al and Sandra, and the setting are simply wonderful. Welcome to Roatan!
