"Solo traveler, 68 yr old women. I arrived at the front desk in the early evening to check in and a bus load of tourists had just arrived at the same time. So I left to grab a bite to eat. When I came back, the young man checked his computer multiple times, and then he told me I wasn’t in the system. I was shocked because I had given him my Expedia confirmation email proving my reservation. He said he didn’t have any rooms left and told me to check a hotel down the road. Unfortunately because it was Memorial Day weekend the prices were extremely high for a person walking in, and I couldn’t afford it. I ended up driving 15 miles down the hwy and found a shabby hotel that I could afford but it still cost me more to stay there than my original reservation which had free breakfast and a pool and jacuzzi. I had truly been excited for my stay but ended up in a hotel I didn’t feel safe in. When I told him what had happened to me, the front desk guy at the 2nd hotel told me that sometimes hotels cancel out cheaper reservations because they know they can get so much more for the room on a holiday weekend. I seriously have lost all confidence in both Expedia and the hotel’s reservation system. The first guy told me that I was the 2nd person who he couldn’t find their reservation, but he still had a spare room for them. I was left to solve the hotel’s problem with no help from them at all. What good is making a reservation if there’s no guarantee you’ll have a room once you arrive?"
