The hostess and her assistant were both very friendly. Excellent breakfast, most comfortable bed ever, impeccable cleanliness. Perfect central location close to everything. We walked to eat dinner at Central Provision, a very hip yet friendly and affordable restaurant in the old port neighborhood. We totally recommand it to foodies like us. The Portland Museum of Art was the central point of our stay and it was better than expected. Perfect location in an eminently walkable small city—Arts District? Two blocks that way. Old Port? Six blocks this way. Free off-street parking in a parking-challenged city is a major plus. John (the host) is a friendly Portland enthusiast with great knowledge of the city and things to do on and off the beaten path—and makes killer gourmet breakfasts and snacks. House itself is a lovely mid-19th century place with modern amenities. Only potential negatives are stairs to the entrance and rooms (if climbing is a problem for you; wasn’t for us) and a curious lack of coffee outside breakfast hours. (Hot water, tea and snacks are always there, so why not single-serve coffee bags?)
