"The Gran Hotel Ciudad de México is a beautiful hotel in an unbeatable location, right in the heart of the historic centre and within easy walking distance of the main sights. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful, and the hotel has plenty of amenities. We especially enjoyed the gym, rooftop bar and restaurant, where breakfast is served buffet-style and you get a lovely view of the cathedral.
Being so central does come with a few trade-offs. It can be noisy at night, especially when festivities are happening, and the historic district can make it harder to find transport—particularly during heavy traffic. The hotel thoughtfully provides earplugs, but light sleepers should keep the noise in mind. We also weren’t fans of the pillows; we tried the options available and didn’t find them particularly comfortable.
Overall, we had a great stay. The hotel’s beauty, location and welcoming staff make it an excellent choice if you want to be in the middle of the action. The noise, transport challenges and pillows are why we’re giving it four stars instead of five."
