Jicaro is a great opportunity to get away from it all. Very peaceful, except at around 4:30 am when the roosters start to wake up. But if you can get past that which I did, you will enjoy it to the hilt. Greeted with a wonderful punch upon making it to the island. The food was delicious. The fish of the day could of had a little more flavor but the Nicaraguan night made up for what the fish of the day did not have. The hotel staff was very accommodating to my diet of no pork or beef and made Nicaraguan chicken for me. Breakfast omelette was delicious as well as the french toast. The eco-friendly room was great and I appreciated the turn down of the bed every night and water by the bed stands. My sister and I stayed in cabana 5 and we had a great view of the lake and the hammock was an excellent way to relax. Really enjoyed seeing the many different birds and taking the kayak out. The only comment I would say is the staff could communicate a little better about transportation to and from the island re: times. We were unaware that the boat to and from the island was available all night. Grenada has a nice night scene on Saturday night that you will want to check out if you want more interaction with people. All guides, drivers, and locals we talked to were very friendly, and it seems like the political tension has subsided. 2) The mosquitos were abundant on the 2 calm nights we had and not noticeable on the breezy nights. They were only out for about 2 hours after sunset and only bad for 1 of those 2 hours. We got used to watching the sunset and then going inside to get ready for dinner while the mosquitos were out. We did not see a single mosquito inside our casita. Now onto the review...The island is beautiful and so different than other places. Definitely luxury yet eco at the same time. The food was amazing and the drinks were wonderful. The best was the morning coffee/tea/juice and banana bread delivered to your private deck followed by morning yoga on the main deck. Sunsets behind the Mombacho Volcano are also unbelievable as is kayaking/SUP around all the many tiny neighboring islands. The pool definitely came in handy as the lake is not clear; the pool is also bigger than it looks in pictures. The island is small and the hotel well-run. No air conditioning but it really wasn't needed with the room built with natural ventilation that worked well. The position away from the hustle and bustle that is Granada was perfect! It turned out to be the most enjoyable hotel I stayed in during my Nicaraguan trip. It was an excellent place to lay back and relax before heading home. The staff were all excellent and we felt very well cared for. There are only 9 casitas,so a maximum of 18 guests. I'm sure there were more staff than guests. The casitas are all privately situated around the periphery of the island. There is a seating area and bathroom on the lower floor with a large bedroom on the upper floor. The bed was very comfortable and mosquito nets were tucked in around the bed at turn-down each evening. There is a small porch out front with a hammock and table and chairs. It was really too small for more than one person to enjoy at a time though. The sitting area, while pleasant enough, was not particularly comfortable. The sofa was on castors and continually pushed away from the wall when you leaned back (there is no back on the sofa to lean against). The food was very good and presented very nicely. I was surprised that house wine and beer were not included as it is listed as all-inclusive. At the price of the resort I feel this really should have been included. There is a refreshing small pool attractively built into the rocks with lounge chairs on an upper and lower deck. The views of the lake and the nearby Volcano Mombacho we gorgeous, especially at sunset. The service was fantastic--one of the best that I have experienced in my travels. The casitas are beautifully designed and the grounds are well-maintained. The food was great. We enjoyed a buffet of typical Nicaraguan cuisine. My only complaint was that the casita tended to be too warm for me, with no AC (yes, I am spoiled!). Set in an unbelievable location on an island in the middle of Lake Nicaragua. The staff is extraordinary from meeting you when you arrive, to serving you amazing food and arranging for your excursions off of the island. The casitas are simply beautiful, but you spend most of your time on the shared grounds with the noted exception of morning coffee delivered to your deck. My favorite thing to do is swim in the warm lake with the turtles. You feel you have a whole staff available to tend to you, and beautiful natural local wood design and architecture that fits in perfectly with the little private island setting on a large lake dotted with other inhabited and uninhabited "isletas".
