« This Holiday Inn actually adjoins the Hualuxe Hotel (both properties are owned by the IHG group). When you arrive, you check in at the Hualuxe reception area. A buffet breakfast is served on Level 1 of the Hualuxe property; guests also have access to the swimming pool on Level 3 of the Hualuxe Hotel. The properties are located in a fairly quiet, leafy area, and it's only a 12-minute walk to the Guangming Road metro station, from where you can get to the centre of Shanghai in just over an hour....

![About 1.5 hours west of Shanghai, Suzhou is known as the "Venice of China" with its canals and stone bridges.  Like in Venice, you can take a riverboat ride on the canals.  

Our boat was steered by an extremely strong little old man who serenaded us by singing Chinese opera.  

Built in 514 BC, Suzhou is an ancient city with a 2500 years' history. The unique characteristics of the past are still retained in present-day Suzhou. The double-chessboard layout of Suzhou, with 'the streets and rivers go side by side while the water and land routes run in parallel', are preserved basically intact. Strolling the streets, you can feel the unique lingering charm of this landscape left by its long history.
