Perfect for the price. Friendly staff and great communication.

**Disappointing check-in and birthday experience** My experience at RIU was extremely disappointing, especially since this was supposed to be a special birthday trip. I arrived around 5 PM with a large group and was one of the last to check in, around 6 PM. I was given a room that was a downgrade from what I had booked, and the key I received did not open my room door. I was later told that my room could potentially be changed around 12 PM on my birthday, so I planned my day around that information. However, the actual room upgrade did not happen until around 3 PM. This caused a major delay and disrupted a significant part of my birthday. Because of the frustration and uncertainty, I ended up drinking more than I normally would, slept later than intended, and then had to remain available while waiting for the room change and new key. I also felt I was not given the same level of attention as couples or other guests checking in as groups. Some staff were pleasant and helpful, but others were dismissive and unwelcoming. Between the room downgrade, faulty key, delayed room change, lost time, and disruption to my birthday, I believe **meaningful compensation or reimbursement is warranted**. I paid for a specific room and experience and did not receive it upon arrival. I hope RIU and Expedia take this complaint seriously and address it appropriately.
