![Fort ligonier, while being in these united states, was decommissioned in 1766, making it a British military fort.  A young George Washington was stationed there alongside an ailing John Forbes.  

In the 8 years that it existed as a garrison, it was never taken by enemy (French or Indian) force, though the Indians attempted to take the fort twice.  The French never tried, and in fact, gave up nearby fort duquesne to Forbes' invading forces.
