Top La Amistad Hotel Reviews

A Jungle Villa, 5-8 BR, full staff, Toucans, Mountains and Emerald Canyon access

A Jungle Villa, 5-8 BR, full staff, Toucans, Mountains and Emerald Canyon access

10/10 Excellent
"What a relaxing, peaceful, yet adventurous time we had. Four of us (one couple and two singles) spent three nights in this luxurious "villa," which is a tropical, open-air mansion on a hillside in the jungle. We had our own large and very clean rooms to choose from with several others to spare. During the day, we hiked to two different waterfalls near the villa (the adventure part!), and at night, we enjoyed the serenity of the hot tub and swimming pool. We were lulled to sleep by frogs and awakened by birds and a couple howler monkeys in the distance. Also mention-worthy was the delicious and hearty Costa Rican-style breakfast made by a staff member in the villa's kitchen. We had full access to the kitchen during our stay, and we made our own lunches and dinners. The on-site caretaker and the remote host were always available and quick to answer any questions we had. This was the vacation we needed, and we were so lucky we chose the perfect place to stay."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in La Amistad?
The best area to stay in La Amistad is near the entrances to the La Amistad International Park, particularly around the small communities that offer direct access to the park's trails and natural beauty.

For those keen on exploring the park's biological diversity, staying close to the Las Tablas sector entrance is highly recommended. This area is known for its cloud forests and opportunities for birdwatching and hiking. Accommodation here often consists of eco-lodges or guesthouses that provide a more secluded experience, superb for nature enthusiasts and couples seeking a tranquil retreat.

Solo travellers looking for a base with a bit more local interaction might prefer the communities closer to the Pittier sector. While still focused on park access, these areas sometimes offer a few more local eateries and opportunities to learn about the indigenous communities inhabiting the region.
When is the best time to go to La Amistad?
The best time to visit La Amistad, San José Province, Costa Rica is during the dry season, which runs from December to April.

During these months, you'll experience consistently sunny days and lower humidity, making it ideal for exploring the natural beauty of the region. The trails in the La Amistad International Park are more accessible, and wildlife spotting is generally easier due to less dense foliage and animals being more active.

For those who enjoy hiking and outdoor activities, this period offers the most comfortable conditions. The clear skies also provide excellent opportunities for photography, capturing the stunning landscapes and diverse ecosystems without the interruption of rain.

While the dry season is popular, it's also the busiest time for tourism.
