"The breakfast is somewhat skimpy. You have to pick stuff up in the lobby and eat in your room. Nearby dining options are limited but the Cutthroat Tavern in Markleeville is pretty good."

"it is off season when we went there, but we had great time staying in this hotel. the room were very spacious, clean and kitchen utensils are very nice to use. if you plan to cook , bring your own favorite seasoning. they just provide salt and pepper. we will go back for skiing in winter for sure."

"This is a basic property with minimal amenities and small rooms. Although they have some to borrow, if needed daily, bring your own hairdryer. Our room didn’t have a coffee maker but they did offer it in the lobby. And although we stayed for convenience and knew it would be busy due to Oktoberfest, they didn’t secure parking for hotel guests. They said they have parking behind the ice cream shop and gave us a parking pass but they didn’t monitor the lot so no guaranteed parking. We’ll stay down the road and ride in next time. Bring ear plugs to sleep through the road noise."

Desolation Hotel Hope Valley

"We were here maybe 15 yrs. ago and the rooms were definitely more rustic. The updated rooms are simple, clean and cozy. The full and efficient kitchen was fine to make a nice dinner. The resort was winding down for the season and staff minimal and in late September the restaurant was closed so it was best to p/u food for breakfast and dinner. Minimal problems included the thermostatically controlled small gas fireplace that was somewhat erratic; sometimes the fan was too noisy at night. During the day the traffic noise made it difficult to enjoy the beautiful grounds, but quiet at night. Overall worth the stay to enjoy beautiful Hope Valley and trails on the property!"

"Clean! Cute! Spacious even for 2 people. Came with first aid kit, flashlights, instructions on how to use the dumpster to keep bears at bay. Easy to find, staff was helpful! Will def book again! **S/N: underneath the bed were a ton of spider webs under the bed, but other than that. Perfect & would book again."
