Find hotels in Kirkwood from CA $66

The best area to stay in Kirkwood is generally within the town centre itself, or just on the outskirts, to be close to amenities and major attractions.

Kirkwood is a small, agricultural town in the Sundays River Valley, known as the "Citrus Capital of the World". The town centre offers a selection of guesthouses and B&Bs, often within walking distance of local shops and restaurants. It's a practical base for exploring the surrounding area.

For couples seeking a more tranquil setting, farm stays on the immediate outskirts of Kirkwood provide a peaceful retreat. These often feature comfortable cottages or rooms with views of citrus orchards or the valley, offering a genuine taste of rural life while still being a short drive from town conveniences. They are ideal for relaxing after a day of exploring the nearby Addo Elephant National Park.

Families will find options both in the town centre and on the surrounding farms.

The best time to visit Kirkwood is during the dry season, which runs from May to October, as this period offers the most comfortable weather for exploring the region.

During these months, the weather is typically mild and sunny, with cooler evenings, making it ideal for outdoor activities like wildlife viewing and exploring the local citrus farms. The lack of rain also means that the roads, especially those leading to more remote areas, are generally in better condition.

For those planning to spend a lot of time on safari in the nearby Addo Elephant National Park, the dry season is particularly advantageous. The vegetation is sparser, and animals tend to congregate around waterholes, making them easier to spot. This period is great for couples seeking an adventurous yet comfortable wildlife experience.

Travellers looking for a relaxed trip, perhaps visiting the citrus farms and enjoying the local produce, will also find this time of year pleasant.
