"Relaxing and picture perfect but...."
This resort perched atop Kingston's Blue Mountain is absolutely beautiful and enriched by old world charm. Dating back to the late 1700's, the old world charm has been maintained and make this resort truly unique. Owned by music mogul Chris Blackwell who arguably brought Bob Marley to world attention, this resort is special. Pictures suround the restaurant of famed guests from Bob Marley himself to Prince Charles, to Grace Jones to Mick Jaguar....the list goes on and on. One starts to get the feel very quickly that this place is a hidden gem where many well known and unknown have found solice from the craziness of the the rest of the world. Unfortunately, the management nor the staff seem to approach this venue with the sacred reverence it deserves. To put it mildly, the staff and manager (who is on sight daily- probably lives on the property) doesn't seem to take much more pride in working at this place than they would if they worked at the local Holiday Inn Express. This attitude is shown by the overall lack of attention to detail. Items listed on the limited menu in the one restaurant on sight are not available. With only 14 rooms and cottages, one would think that guests would have their choices of a daily array of delicious chef prepared meals from which to choose....not the case. The accoutrements of this place is nothing short of amazing, but the service is average to mediocre at best.

"Okay hotel"
I stayed budget suite which is for one person. No space for two. Since it's cheaper than other rooms, I don't say much but the room I stayed was located the end of wooden corridor means every time someone walk, you can hear their footsteps. Other rooms are very spacious with couch and table, I've stayed those too before, while this one only have space for bed. The shower door was bit odd though. I was kind of stuck between the door and shower wall because it opens towards you, when you are in the shower,(does this make sense?) and no space to move away from the door in the shower. oh, and it leaked to the floor. Not much but I was surprised to see the water outside of shower. Hotel staff were friendly, room was clean as usual.

Arrived in the evening, other than ants & some small bugs, specifically in the kitchen or where we left food out for long periods of time. The stay was good. Wifi worked well during my time there. Had private restroom & luckily did not have to share. Pad lock on both front and back doors, and had also a gate to the rooms & guard dogs, which served for more of an alert/alarm system at the front that helped increase my sense of safety. Just a five-minute walk there are a bunch of restaurants, stores, movie theater & more off the main road. The few staff members I did meet were nice, especially the female room attendant.

"Beautiful Blue Mountain location"
Gorgeous setting in a valley of the Blue Mountains. Difficult to reach but our driver, Richard, was excellent and provided lots of insights regarding the area and the country. Only stayed one night on our way back from the north coast to returning flight out of Kingston. Wished we had booked more time here to explore the area and enjoy Rafjam. Garden is stunning with lots of flora, plenty of birds, and a babbling brook. Room was clean and comfortable and had a lovely large private balcony with hammock. This is not a place for lovers of big luxury resorts. So if Montego Bay is your scene, please stay there and leave this lovely secluded oasis for the rest of us.
