10.0 out of 10, Exceptional, (1 review)
"Nice pension in traditional mountain style. Our room was very nicely decorated and we had our own balcony. Our bathroom was equipped with a luxurious shower. Very warm and helpful hospitality. Ample breakfast. We also had dinner for 8 EUR per person, which was traditional Romanian and also very ample. The dining room has a nice fireplace where always a fire was burning (in October, maybe it is different in July). We felt very comfortable an will return to that place."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Ilva Mare?
The best area to stay in Ilva Mare is the village centre, particularly along Strada Principală, as it offers the most convenient access to local amenities and the region's natural beauty.

The village centre is the heart of Ilva Mare. Strada Principală, the main road, runs through the village and is where you'll find most of the guesthouses, local shops, and eateries. It's a compact area, making it easy to get around on foot, and it serves as a good base for exploring the surrounding Maramureș Mountains.

For couples looking for a relaxing escape, staying in the village centre provides easy access to the local culture and the start of many walking trails into the picturesque countryside. You can enjoy the peaceful pace of village life, sample traditional Romanian cuisine, and embark on scenic hikes directly from your accommodation.

Families will also find the village centre practical. Guesthouses here often have gardens or outdoor spaces suitable for children, and being close to the main road means essential services are nearby.
When is the best time to go to Ilva Mare?
When planning a trip to Ilva Mare, the best time to visit is during the summer months, from June to August, or in early autumn, particularly September, for the most pleasant weather and outdoor activities.

Summer in Ilva Mare offers warm and sunny days, great for exploring the surrounding Maramureș Mountains and enjoying the natural beauty of the area. You'll find the hiking trails are easily accessible, and the local flora is in full bloom. This is ideal for couples who enjoy active holidays, as they can spend their days trekking to waterfalls or through meadows, and evenings enjoying the long daylight hours.

September brings a cooler, yet still comfortable, climate with fewer crowds. The autumn colours in the forests are quite striking, making it a wonderful time for photography and scenic drives. For those who appreciate a relaxed pace and natural beauty without the peak season buzz, early autumn provides an excellent balance.
