Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Iholdy?
The best area to stay in Iholdy is the village centre itself.

Iholdy is a small, traditional Basque village, and the village centre is where you'll find the main church, the local fronton (pelota court), and the few local businesses. Staying here means you're right at the heart of community life, with easy access to the village's amenities. The surrounding area is characterised by rolling green hills and scattered farmhouses, offering a really authentic rural French experience.

Couples looking for a peaceful escape will find the village centre ideal. It offers a chance to experience the quiet charm of rural Basque Country, with opportunities for gentle walks in the countryside right from your doorstep. You'll appreciate the calm evenings and the chance to enjoy local produce.

For travellers interested in local culture and a tranquil setting, staying in or very close to the village centre is perfect.
What hotels in Iholdy offer free breakfast?
For hotels in Iholdy that offer free breakfast, consider the Bed and Breakfast 'Barukia' with Private Garden and Wi-Fi.

This highly-rated accommodation, with a great 10.0 review score, provides a complimentary breakfast to start your day. It also features convenient onsite parking and is located near opportunities for rock climbing.
When is the best time to go to Iholdy?
The best time to go to Iholdy is generally from late spring to early autumn, specifically from May to October, when the weather is most pleasant for exploring the Basque Country.

During these months, you'll find warmer temperatures and less rainfall, making it ideal for outdoor activities such as hiking in the surrounding hills or visiting nearby villages like Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port. The countryside is lush and green, and local markets are in full swing, offering fresh produce and regional specialities.

For couples looking for a relaxing escape, late May and early June offer comfortable temperatures and fewer crowds before the peak summer season. This allows for peaceful strolls through the charming landscapes and more intimate dining experiences in local Auberges.

Families might prefer July and August when the weather is warmest, superb for enjoying the local outdoor swimming pools or day trips to the coast, which is about an hour's drive away.
