The architecture is reminiscent of mid-century modern design highlighting natural surroundings. We welcome you to enjoy Lava Rock Retreat, Hawaii! As you enter Lava Rock Retreat you're greeted by walls of picture windows with verdant views of our tropical forest. The main living area boasts a soaring ceiling, cool concrete floors, and hi-tech smart home functions. Delight in three modes of coffee making from pedestrian (12-cup drip maker) to aficionado (espresso and Nespresso Vertuo makers). The kitchen is fully stocked for cooks of all levels and includes touch-sensor faucets, and every small appliance you may desire. Dine at the copper fronted bar or the dining table. The living area has a large screen Smart TV and sectional sofa (you may want to spend more time here than you imagine!). The whole house is geared with free high speed Wi-Fi internet and Alexa Smart home features. The home sleeps up to 4 guests and is recommended for adults and older children only. Our outside areas are built around the natural pahoehoe flow of ancient lava with uneven, rocky grounds. The primary bedroom has a king sized Tempurpedic Pro-Breeze mattress with Adjustable Ergo Base and ensuite bathroom with tiled shower and heated Toto toilet seat with bidet functions. The second bedroom has a King bed 3 inch gel infused cooling memory foam topper and USB outlets on each side of the headboard. The guest bathroom also has a tiled shower and Toto toilet. There is a half bathroom near the kitchen which even includes a urinal! The bathrooms and kitchens all feature towel warmers to keep your towels dry and warm. Besides being stunningly beautiful, the owner’s have made sure you have absolutely everything you need to make your stay special. We stayed for my mom’s 80th birthday, so I wanted a special house and we certainly got one. The moment we stepped in we were impressed by the beauty of the house and the setting. Outside there is lush landscaping with garden paths, outdoor shower and hot tub. Inside is beautifully designed for comfort and relaxation. The kitchen does not lack a thing for any kind of cooking you want to do. The bathrooms have heated bidet toilets and heated towel racks. The beds were comfortable and we all slept well. It’s about 10 minutes from all the great restaurants in Hilo. We had a great stay and did not want to leave. Thank you for sharing this amazing house! ##### Kristine J. Built on lava rock and surrounded by lush vegetation made you feel like you were deep in the jungle. The house was amazing with more creatures of comfort than you could use! We thoroughly enjoyed walking through the spectacular garden and viewing it from inside through the large floor to ceiling glass sliding doors. The outdoor showers are great and we enjoyed the hot tub one rainy afternoon. The house itself is lovely, nicely decorated, very well organized and comfortable. The kitchen is superbly stocked and we enjoyed cooking some wonderful meals there. The location was perfect, close enough to Hilo but in a quiet, private neighborhood. The jungle noises at night were so loud we had to use subtitles on the TV if we wanted to watch a show, as we didn't want to close the screened glass doors and miss out on the outdoor vibe. It was a great experience, and totally different from a resort (which we did the previous several days). We loved just sitting and looking out at the backyard which is like a tropical forest with paths available for walking, yet the property is in a neighborhood only 10 min from Hilo. The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen is well appointed. The massage chair was enjoyed by all after hiking at the national park. This property is a great blend of nature and high tech with remote controlled ceiling fans and lighting in every room, high tech toilets and modern appliances. There is no air conditioning, and it was a bit hot in the afternoons, but it cooled off at night for sleeping. Check in/out was easy with the door code. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. The only negative we noticed was light filtering blinds in the main bedroom, which could be a problem for some who need the room darker in the morning hours. Also, coqui frogs sing at night (I think across most of the island). Could be white noise for some but we used our earplugs to sleep. ##### Heidi D. The host have thought of absolutely everything one could ever need. Going inside the house you see the back area which is not to disappoint and even better the more you explore! He didn't want me to know anything about it until we got there. We got there after dark and when we walked in it was the most fantastic surprise! The home was a dream! Windows everywhere lining the most gorgeous landscaping. The outside lighting lit the outside up and made you feel like you were in a Jurassic Park movie. The whole entire house was set up with so much love and care. All the little details really made it charming and special! I felt like I was in the middle of the rainforest while being in the comfort of a warm cozy house. The whole experience exceeded expectations! The hot tub was a fun experience amongst the landscaping and the chirping of the coqui frogs. Everything about this house was wonderful! Cozy blankets, air conditioning, heated towel warmers, fun appliances, and everything else! We absolutely loved it and will definitely want to stay there again!
