"The cottage is very cute and cozy and exactly what we needed! One of the best stays of our 2 week trip. Big shower, big comfy bed and good blackout curtains. Contactless check in was very smooth as well"

We loved our stay in this apartment. The sea view is incredible. The apartment is spacious enough for a group of 4 and the pull out/lay flat couch was fairly comfortable for two to sleep on. The only minor downside was a slightly small kitchen but we loved everything else here and would return in a heartbeat.

Cozy, comfortable, and friendly. Has a beautiful history behind it.
Walkable to any point throughout the town to check out all the murals, and to the gas bar/convenience store for supplies. Living room/dining room window looks out onto the big sheep mural!

Très dépaysant comme hébergement... on débarque dans une commune des années 60, peace & love!
Personnel accueillant, les espaces communautaires sont très hippie mais la chambre est toute neuve, avec sa salle de bain privée.

Location is close to the kirkjufell, you can see it if you book the Mountain View.
Only thing I don’t like is the shower, even though there is a curtain, water still hit the door and you can see the inside door need replacement soon.

Cabin was warm, cozy and spotlessly clean upon arrival. Good restaurant on site. Great fish and chips from food truck just down the road. Beautiful walking trails close by as well.

Très bel hôtel, propre et bien entretenu. Le principal point à améliorer concerne les options de restauration : la ville offre peu de choix de restaurants et celui de l’hôtel était fermé. Malgré cela, j’ai passé un très bon séjour !

The Old Post office was a large guesthouse very close to the Kirkjufell waterfall and mountai. The mountain was well seen from the guesthouse. The rooms were quite large, with private bathrooms and the beds were comfortable. The kitchen was a bit small but ok for a simple meal.
The whole place was very clean. We liked staying there.

The best area to stay in Hellissandur is within the village itself, particularly near the fishing harbour.
Hellissandur is a small, quiet fishing village located on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. Its main street, Klettsbúð, runs parallel to the coastline, and the village is compact and easy to navigate on foot. The harbour is a central point, offering views of the fishing boats and the surrounding coastline.
For travellers looking for a peaceful base to explore the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, staying in Hellissandur is an excellent choice. It's well-situated for day trips to sights like the Snæfellsjökull National Park and the black sand beaches of Djúpalónssandur.
When is the best time to go to Hellissandur?
The best time to go to Hellissandur is during the summer months, from June to August, for the most pleasant weather and longest daylight hours.
During this period, the days are very long, often with 24 hours of daylight in June, which is great for exploring the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. Temperatures are mild, typically ranging from 10°C to 15°C, making outdoor activities like hiking and wildlife spotting more enjoyable. This is also when all roads and attractions are fully accessible.
For those interested in experiencing the Midnight Sun, June is the ideal month. The extended daylight means you can plan excursions well into the evening, making the most of your time exploring the rugged coastline and the Snæfellsjökull glacier.
Travellers hoping to see the Northern Lights should consider visiting between September and April. While the weather is colder and daylight hours are shorter, the darker skies offer the best chance to witness this natural phenomenon.
