If I could give 0 stars I would. I would absolutely avoid at all costs. We got to the room and there was a pubic hair on the windowsill and the toilet was not clean. I asked for a refund given the state of the room and they refused to refund me. So my money has been taken and the service was not provided. I stayed here a few years ago and my room was beautiful. This time I am so disappointed. The last staircase to my top floor room was steep and narrow with NO handrail....dangerous! Inside the tiny room was extremely shabby, wallpaper hanging off, dirty marks on walls by bed, in bathroom and by sink, a broken dark wood venetian blind which wouldn't open so I had to keep the light on. There were screws protruding from the wall above the sink in the bedroom. Hooks on wall with one hanger I couldn't reach because it was on the floor behind a table, one small dingy green towel, I asked for more and got another equally small dingy green one. The toilet was disgusting, brown limescale in the bowl and this morning I could see urine stains all around the base of the toilet, if I had looked last night I would have demanded another room or at least for somebody to clean it. No bedside lamp or means of turning the main one off from bed. When I took my shoes off I trod in a big wet patch on the carpet. Went to make my coffee before bed and there was no cup so I made it in the glass. Once in bed I noticed how draughty the window was, the road noise was awful and to top it all a really thin duvet and rock hard pillow! The whole place, including my top floor room smelled of burnt cooking oil and chines food. Dirty carpet. Broken wardrobe, even the door of the wardrobe was broken, you could move the wardrobe with just one finger. Parking facilities were very poor. Just few parkings in the front. The other parking at the back of the hotel were very tough accessible as the path was very narrow. The receptionist was very unfriendly as we arrived a little early she opened the door and without saying hello or any greetings just said 13£ please. Really a very bad experience at the hotel. Never again. Bed bugs, toilet flushed out onto to garden! Unbelievable but honestly it was disgusting. The hotel itself looks lovely, dainty and welcoming but that's about it. No refund or acknowledgement but offered me 5% off for the next booking. There is no sign outside to say it is the Godalming Hotel, the exterior is very uninviting. The smell of stale food and oil hits you when you enter the building. The receptionist hardly said a word to me, she didn't show me to my room. The room had a smell of body odour, the bathroom door had been punched in. There were no curtains and the blind didn't work. You couldn't open the window to let fresh air in as there was a pond with swamp like water in which stank as bad. No sign to tell us it was the godalming hotel. Generally speaking the whole building was a work in progress it was an unfinished hotel not fit for guests. Hotelier accessed our room every to empty bin but did not change bedding or hoover the floor or change towels in the bathroom.
