"GOOD: The hotel is right on a beautiful sandy beach. It's a bit remote from bars, restaurants etc. The rooms are fairly large. The food was above average though not great. NOT SO GOOD: The hotel is very old and really needs to be torn down and rebuilt-especially to be charging as much as they are. I think the prices they are asking are ridiculous. My wife and I enjoyed our stay here-it's not terrible. But FOR THE PRICE I was disappointed "

"Nice traditional rooms - clean and good-sized. Loved the onsen/bath! Right on an easy bus route 3 stops /6 minutes from Shimoda station and another 5 stops/10 mins or so to Shirahama Beach. Cons - no wi-fi in rooms. Staff not very welcoming or friendly. There’s a Jonathon's family restaurant and a 7-11 but other than that very limited dining options within walking distance but Shimoda is very sleepy so without a car your options are pretty limited unless staying in the ‘city’ "

"Great place for families visiting Shimoda and Izu Peninsula. Definitely a hotel catering to Japanese tourists, but with a little Japanese and respect the staff is very friendly and works with you. "It was nice staying at this guest house Shirahama. It was only a few minutes drive from the Shirahama Beach. Also the restaurant was nice. Breakfast was only 500 Yen, but it was really delicious!
