Welcome to SurfShack, the newest addition to The RatherShacks family of Folly Beach cottage rentals. And thanks to our very cool owner partners we are proud to bring you our first ever OCEAN FRONT house for your vacation enjoyment. And you win because they also own a beach house on the Jersey Shore and know a thing or two about oceanfront luxury, and they didn’t skip a beat when making this place into your perfect get away. They went down to the studs inside and out with all new roofing, siding, windows, decking, and an open floor plan. You will be styling in the coolest little seaside house on Folly. Small is the new big on this stretch of beach (4th block E Arctic Ave) ….and with just 2 bedrooms you get the same stunning view as the 6 bedroom monster house next door, but at a fraction of the price.
You’ll notice the ocean opulence right away as you approach the front steps and see the stainless steel cable railing system --an island accent all the way. Open the front door and you are treated to a panoramic view over the dunes of the Atlantic Ocean, and as sun fills the room you exhale and realize you’re not in Kansas anymore. The oversized windows and sliders dramatically increase the actual and perceived amount of space in this house, and slide them open to hear the crashing waves just steps away. Ceilings have been finished with white shiplap adding a nautical touch, and they reflect the sunlight providing a much needed overexposure of that coastal sunshine you’ve been craving. Underfoot you have vintage hardwood floors that have been meticulously restored giving a nice counterbalance to the modern amenities you find in the completely updated Kitchen. All new granite counters, custom wood cabinets , stainless steel appliances, and an induction cook top stove/oven give you a set up fit for a gourmet chef. The designer island/table provides plenty of prep space for those tasty beach sandwiches with friends, or create a memorable holiday meal cooked for the whole family.
A washer and dryer complete the amenities in the kitchen area, and you’ll appreciate the generous recessed lighting perfectly placed throughout the house-but especially in the kitchen.
The informal dining area has a farm table and benches for casual dining, with the continual ocean views always in play… and the kitchen island can be used for overflow seating as well.
The living Living Room area has a plush couch for reclining, solid wood modern tables that will more than support your drinks, and a 65” wide screen TV for watching the big game or your favorite reruns. or You can just doze off to the sounds and sights of the sand and sea in your back yard. Beachy chill artwork accentuates the place, and it all conspires to help you downshift here at SurfShack.
Your master bedroom has a king mattress and custom frame with custom built in side cabinets for hanging clothes, maximizing every cubic inch of the room. Your private slider opens up to the back deck and the wooshing calm of the waves just beyond the dunes.
In the 2nd Bed custom made bunks hold 1 queen and 3 twin mattresses so you could put the kids or another couple in here. If the waves don’t lull you to sleep then the top of the line brand new mattresses in every bed insure you will slumber deep.
The compact bathroom has been gutted and remade into petite luxury with ceramic wall tiles that look like teak wood, a granite sink counter, rain shower head , glass shower walls, and tile throughout.
Step onto the expanded ocean view deck which runs full length of the house and enjoy your outside lounge where you can max relax at any time. You’ll love your morning coffee here watching the dreamsicle orange wash over you as the sun comes up. Can you see why you’ll spend lots of time out here?
Outside on the lush grounds native plants captivate you and assault your senses as the Palmetto Palms rustle in the tranquil breezes and the lush scent of Jasmine and Ligustrum make you feel like you’re floating away into the tropics. With a gas grill, hot and cold outdoor shower, and plenty of private sand in your back yard, you have all you need to unwind after a beautiful day at the beach.
Location-wise you couldn’t be in a better spot. Let me say this again.. You are right ON the beach with your own private path just steps away from having your ass in the chair, your toes in the sand and the waves washing under your feet. And you’ll love the short 7 minute walk into Center Street and all the bars and restaurants Folly is famous for. SurfShack is also 3 doors down from where I live so I’m super close if you need anything. Plus you may see me on the beach nursing a cold Coors Light or two ( or three , or four…..). I’ve been known to share, except when it’s the last beer in the cooler.
Let’s not forget Folly’s legendary Bert’s Market just 2 blocks away where you can slake your thirst 24x7 in the Lowcountry’s best beer cave, watch the locals drift in, and get your favorite sandwich made on the spot at their Wooden Spoon Deli. And For those 3am munchies there’s a freezer full of Ben & Jerry’s (did somebody say Phish Food???). Across from Bert’s is your closest watering hole called Chico Feo, which sports the best island vibe out of any bar on Folly. In fact they are so island vibe they don’t even have a roof! ….If its sunny-- go there, enjoy a cold one with a taco, and some great local live music. If it’s raining --they close. And now .....for the legal –type stuff: The home is located in a quiet residential section of Folly Beach and we do not allow parties or events. Folly has strict noise ordinance rules and is really cracking down with fines. So you if you want a house party don’t book here. Residential District QUIET HOURS are from 10pm-9am --no loud voices or amplified music inside or out. SurfShack is an ocean front house and is subject to the Folly Beach Turtle Management Ordinance, which means you can not have exterior lights on or interior lights on without shades after 10pm until sunrise during turtle nesting season May 1 – October 31. SurfShack is strictly NON SMOKING and allows a maximum of 6 guests with 4 off street parking spaces. NO PETS ALLOWED. We require all guests to sign our standard 2-Page South Carolina Short Term Rental Agreement which includes all the house and Folly Beach rules. This is sent to you after you book, along with check-in information. We strongly recommend guests purchase TRIP INSURANCE which can protect you from last minute travel changes due to health, family, weather, or employment issues..…Hope to see you here soon!
