Top Essau Hotel Reviews

Metzy Residence Hotel

Metzy Residence Hotel

10/10 Excellent
"This is my second time staying here and ,as usual, it didn't disappoint. Had a great time. Elizabeth from house keeping kept my room clean, forgot the name of the breakfast chef but he sure knows my order: 6 eggs,no onions. Large room, great pool, friendly staff, great location and inexpensive, Metzy is one I would heartily recommend to anyone."

"This hotel isn’t an excellent stay what so ever especially for the price. The breakfast selection isn’t all that great. The room needs a lot of maintenance (clean the doors remove worn out mirrors the the paint job is terrible and the most simplest thing no washing cloth) and you can’t take breakfast back to your room… and also like to add that. The room next to me was being remodeled they were banging on the wall all day as if my room wasn’t being occupied. I did complain and they stopped the laborer(s) …. This place have a lot of potential but bakajai is way way better place to stay… the staff is great very professionally"

"Beautiful property. My room was spacious and clean. Enjoy the hotel Resturant for breakfast and dinner. Property is conveniently located with walking distance from the senagambia tourist strip which is nice if you want something other than hotel food. Lots of restaurants to choose from although the restaurant prices are actually very reasonable. The staff was very accommodating and lovely. I would stay here again."

"We had one of the rooms on the beach, which was the most amazing location. 30 metres from the waters edge, so to go to sleep to the sound of Atlantic waves was amazing. Comfy bed, we slept 8-10 hours per night. Also had a pool, shared with our neighbours. Food was ok, the Strip was a 15 minute walk away. Did a one say Safari to Senegal which was AMAZING."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Essau?
The best area to stay in Essau is typically within the main village of Essau itself, or in one of the nearby, more developed areas that offer better visitor amenities. The village of Essau is the administrative centre for the Lower Niumi District and is located on the north bank of the Gambia River, directly opposite the capital, Banjul. It's a key transport hub, especially for those using the ferry crossing. The village has a local market and a few guesthouses, providing a glimpse into local life. For travellers looking for a base to explore the North Bank region, staying in Essau offers convenience due to its ferry access. It's particularly good for those interested in local culture and history, as it's close to sites like Fort Bullen.Couples or those seeking a more comfortable stay might consider properties slightly outside the immediate village centre that offer better facilities.
When is the best time to go to Essau?
The best time to visit Essau, North Bank, Gambia, is during the dry season, which runs from November to May.This period offers consistently sunny weather with comfortable temperatures, typically ranging from 25°C to 30°C. There's very little rainfall, making it ideal for exploring the area's natural beauty and cultural sites without interruption. The lower humidity also makes outdoor activities much more pleasant.Couples looking for a relaxing getaway will appreciate the calm and predictable weather, great for enjoying the local markets and river excursions. The dry season allows for easy travel to nearby attractions like Fort James Island and the Kunta Kinteh Island UNESCO World Heritage site, accessible via a short ferry ride from Barra, just south of Essau. For travellers interested in wildlife and birdwatching, the dry season is particularly good. The receding waters concentrate animals around remaining water sources, making them easier to spot.
