I got food poisoning from room service with 24 hours of immediate vomiting of their benachin dish and 72 hours of diarrhea. Their breakfast was so so but their customer service left a lot to be desired. The beach at the bottom of the steps leading from the hotel had dogs pooping near the water, boys washing sheep in the ocean and cows wandering around. Very unsightly eyesore.. Etwas kühl von der Atmosphäre her, da kein einziges Bild an der Wand hing. Die Tagesdecke war leider sehr schmutzig. Es gab einen Kühlschrank und die Möglichkeit Wasser heiß zu machen incl. Kaffeepulver und Tee.Für Gambische Verhältnisse war das Zimmer sehr sauber, ebenso das Badezimmer, wenn man von den Fugen in den Fließen mal absieht. Extrem große Duschkabine, mit warmen Wasser (zumindest am Tag). Und auch das Bad war insgesamt sehr groß, sogar mit Badewanne. Der Ausblick aufs Meer war super, super schön. Das Personal war zuvorkommend und sehr zurückhaltend, etwas was ich von Gambia her so nicht kenne. Auch das Restaurant haben wir einmal ausprobiert, das Essen war nicht überragend, aber völlig ok. Da die Tischdecke schmutzig war haben wir sie austauschen lassen, was sofort erledigt wurde. Der Nachmittagssnack war auch gut, da stimmte aber das Preisleistungsverhältnis nicht, da die Portion extrem klein war. Mir hat gefallen, dass das Hotel nicht so groß war und für gambische Verhältnisse war es wirklich sehr sauber, aber das merkt man natürlich auch am Preis. Über die Umgebung kann ich nicht viel sagen, da wir nur 3 Nächte dort waren. Senegambia ist zu Fuß etwa 30 Minuten entfernt. Der Strand ist direkt am Hotel. Die beiden Pools waren klein, aber für mich völlig ausreichend. Die Hotelanlage und der Pool sind wunderschön, und der Strand befindet sich direkt am Hotel. Bedauerlicherweise gab es jedoch ein äußerst schockierendes und grausames Ereignis, das meine gesamte Erfahrung stark beeinträchtigt hat. Als ich draußen an einem Tisch saß, um etwas zu essen, befand sich unter meinem Tisch eine süße kleine Katze, die höchstens neun Monate alt war. Als die Kellnerin kam und die Katze unter dem Tisch bemerkte, trat sie nach ihr – direkt vor meinen Augen. Ich bin außerordentlich schockiert und finde dieses Verhalten äußerst aggressiv und verstörend. Wie kann jemand einem fühlenden Lebewesen gegenüber so gewalttätig sein wollen? Obwohl ich grundsätzlich zufrieden war, hat mich dieser Vorfall zutiefst angewidert und schockiert. Ich habe bereits einige Länder bereist, aber ein derart schlechtes Verhalten gegenüber Tieren habe ich noch nie erlebt. Many things can be a challenge in the Gambia, from finding an ATM that works for you, taxi drivers, good restaurants, etc. The owner has hired wonderful Gambians who are kind, professional and speak multiple languages. The Kasumai sits next to the monkey sanctuary where you can walk, has a nice beachside bar, and a great restaurant serving fish, steak and ribs. Every meal, every interaction with the team at Kasumai was great. They also have a security guard at the front, 24/7, and only let known guests or trusted local people onto the grounds. The only challenging thing I found was the pot hole ridden road getting to the Kasumai. Many roads around the hotel are challenging. Finally, there is a High Street/Restaurant row 1.5 miles away, which I walked to each day. Very safe.
