The best area to stay in El Mallol is within the village itself, particularly around the Plaça Major and the streets immediately surrounding it.

This central part of El Mallol offers a quintessential rural Catalan experience. The Plaça Major is the heart of the village, a charming square where locals gather, often featuring a fountain or a small bandstand. The surrounding narrow, cobbled streets are lined with traditional stone houses, many of which have been beautifully restored into guesthouses or holiday rentals. It's a very walkable area, allowing you to easily reach the local bakery, a small grocery shop, and the village's few eateries.

Couples looking for a peaceful retreat will find this area particularly appealing. Staying here provides a sense of stepping back in time, with opportunities for gentle strolls through the village or exploring the nearby countryside trails. The quiet evenings are superb for enjoying a glass of local wine on a private terrace or at a village cafe.

For families with older children who appreciate nature and outdoor activities, staying just on the outskirts of the main village, perhaps in a larger villa with a garden, can be ideal. These properties often offer more space and direct access to the walking and cycling paths that crisscross the surrounding valleys and hills.

The best time to go to El Mallol is during the spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) months, when the weather is pleasantly mild and the natural beauty of the region is at its peak.

For those who enjoy outdoor activities like hiking and cycling, spring offers lush green landscapes and comfortable temperatures, superb for exploring the surrounding Garrotxa Volcanic Zone Natural Park. The wildflowers are in bloom, adding to the scenic appeal.

Couples looking for a peaceful escape will appreciate the autumn months. The temperatures are still agreeable, and the changing colours of the leaves create a stunning backdrop for leisurely walks and enjoying local cuisine. It's also a quieter time to visit, allowing for a more relaxed experience.

While summer (July and August) is also popular, it can be quite warm, and the area tends to be busier with holidaymakers.
