![Eiheiji Temple in Fukui Prefecture is a living working Temple. It trains monks from all over Japan. The grounds there are gorgeous in all season and you can see the monks at work. Don't take pictures of them though its forbidden.
The temple doesn't offer tours in English but when you arrive they will have pamphlets for you to read as you walk around in English giving you the history and facts about the temple. "The facilty is old & the room smelled of cigarettes, but everything else was wonderful. If looking for authentic Japanese experience (for the working and middle class Japanese) this is a very good experience. Dinner and breakfast buffet was really good. However there's little to do around the lake, unlike Yamashiro ir Yamanaka onsen area. "

"The people is extremely warm and welcoming, including reception and the lady serving us from check in to dining. The young lady can speak english, we have a great time there. We use the public onsen before dinner so there are not much people. The private onsen in the room also great, but will be a bit small if two people bath together. Will definitely recommend this place to people who want to experience Japanese traditional onsen culture and dining. "

![Eiheiji Temple in Fukui Prefecture is a living working Temple. It trains monks from all over Japan. The grounds there are gorgeous in all season and you can see the monks at work. Don't take pictures of them though its forbidden.
The temple doesn't offer tours in English but when you arrive they will have pamphlets for you to read as you walk around in English giving you the history and facts about the temple.
