Unfortunately, that was my problem, I felt like we were encroaching in someone else's home. I booked on Expedia because it had the highest rating for a hotel local to the Royal Highland Show, where we were visiting. It was also the cheapest of those available within a 10 mile radius of the venue. I was therefore very happy to book a room. My wife and I have never previously stayed in a guest house, so it wasn't really the sort of venue we're used to. It's probably unfair to criticize, as it was a new experience which is unlikely we shall repeat. For anyone who does like the guest house type experience, then I have no hesitation in recommending Ashcroft Farmhouse and particularly Mrs Scott.
