    Minnesota Hotel Guide

The state of Minnesota's name is derived from a Dakota word that means "sky tinted water" and water is certainly abundant in the land of 10,000 lakes. With forests, managed park systems, prairies, lakes, and rivers, visitors to hotels in Minnesota will have no shortage of outdoor recreational opportunities.

Minnesota's geography exhibits special features not found elsewhere in the U.S. Ancient gneisses 3.6 billion years old have been found in the state and much of the land was previously covered by glaciers during the last ice age. The state also has some of the best examples of wetlands, second in area only to Alaska.

Travellers looking for Minnesota hotel packages frequently come to explore protected lands such as the Chippewa National Forest or the Superior National Forest, which have populations of black bears, timber wolves, and moose. First inhabited by the Dakota people, Minnesota was settled by Scandinavian and German immigrants who brought with them Nordic cuisine like lutefisk.

Many Minnesota hotel deals on Expedia are in the population centres of Minneapolis and St. Paul, which are nicknamed "The Twin Cities". More than 60 percent of the state's residents live in this metropolitan area. Visitors enjoying cheap hotel deals in Minnesota often make a stop at the Mall of America, which is the nation's largest shopping mall and even includes an indoor amusement park. Other popular places to visit in the Minneapolis-St. Paul region include the Minneapolis Institute of Arts and the Minnesota Zoo.

Other popular cities that offer visitors a chance at a cheap Minnesota hotel deal include Rochester, home of the world famous Mayo Clinic; Duluth, which sits along the pristine shores of Lake Superior; and St. Cloud, which rests upon the shores of the Mississippi and has a 9-megawatt hydroelectric power plant. Travellers in the state for events such as the Twin Cities Marathon or the Minnesota State Fair should book reservations well in advance as discount rooms can fill up quickly.

Visitors at Minnesota hotels are welcomed with the typical exuberant Midwestern hospitality called "Minnesota nice" that trademarks the region. The top time of the year to visit Minnesota is the late spring through fall. For the best prices, travellers should find accommodations a month in advance of their trip. Rates at Minnesota's hotels are affordable on any budget, which makes for an inexpensive family trip to this welcoming and relaxing Great Lakes state.

Staff member who checked us in was a bit short with us and did not inform us of any ammenities or nearby recreation. Apparently you can buy snacks at the front desk but I did not realize this until I saw the snack counter from the second floor balcony the morning we checked out. The hotel room was nice, clean and very comfortable. The bathroom was large. There was a fridge and microwave in the room but unfortunately we were unaware that the fridge was broken so our leftovers from dinner spoiled. I was not very happy at all about that. The room was quiet and hotel surroundings were very close to shopping malls. There was backdoor access with your keycard which made it convenient to enter from the parking lot. Checkout was a breeze.

    "Nice hotel and pool. "
Check in and check out were both quick and easy. It was a nice hotel conveniently located in downtown Duluth. We were attracted to the Tesla charging availability in the hotel garage. For anyone who requires a quiet room, I would request a room on floor 12 or above.

"Nice hotel with view of the harbor."
Great views from the room I had. We stayed in the tower rooms. They are smaller and odd shaped, but the shape is to be expected due to the shape of the tower (cylindrical). The lobby during check-in, however, was crowded and the process overall was slow. There should be more people assisting with check-in during the weekends or when the hotel is nearly full. I knew of two weddings and the staff was pleasant and helpful, but there should have been more of them. There are only two elevators in the tower section and they are slow. The tower rooms seem to be more for a business traveler do not have a fridge or microwave. You could rent them for $10 each per day, but for the price of the room, they should have been included. We didn't spend much time in the room since our stay was only a visit for a wedding that took up most of the time. Although it's a nice hotel, I think I'll check out another hotel for my next visit. I stayed at this hotel once before, about eight years ago (not in the tower) and the room was much more spacious.

"Convenient and close to the freeway"
We stayed here four nights for a hiking weekend in the area. The hotel is located just off I-35, which was perfect for us because we had hikes both North and South of Duluth. The hotel staff were all young, but they were friendly and responsive to all our needs. The room was clean and housekeeping kept it clean our whole stay. The free breakfast is basically just waffles, muffins and coffee/tea/juice so we skipped that for healthier fare down the road. (The weekend breakfast crowd is big and it's a small room, so get there early if you want a waffle!) The pool and hot tub areas were also kept clean and stocked with towels, which was very nice on sore muscles after a long days on trails. We chose this hotel for the cheaper room rate and location and we were not disappointed with anything. This is not a fancy hotel and is showing its age a little, but it was exactly what we were looking for. Overall we were very happy here.
